I have a 64BIT OpenSuSE server I'm looking to migrate over to Ubuntu.Dell 7500 Workstation with Intel E5 Xeon processor64GB of RAM and 20TB of dataMySQL database to migrate over with it.First off before going any further, I noticed the only architecture for 64bit is AMD 64, so does this mean having a Dell server based on Intel, I'm dead in the water as is? If so I can just go towards SME Server, but I would rather try Ubuntu as it's a bit unique on it's own/to try something different.Or is there something unique about the 32bit version that will allow it to use the full 64GB of RAM? This is a domain controller that will also virtualize multiple other servers and other functions. Basically a ...

Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage. The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable. It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Discoecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Ruing dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. I have tried suggestions on http://askubuntu.com/questions/78995...ot-in-16-04lts without success.I'm hoping someone can assist with setting up both raids to boot degraded as neither RAID will boot but drops into initramfs. Thanks in advance,LeonAdditional detail in case it matters:/proc/mdstat:Personalities : [raid1] ...

I think I know where I went wrong, I just can't find anything on how to fix it. I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 install which have incompatible formats if I recall correctly. When I boot my computer it hangs on the BIOS for much longer than normal, with my caps lock and num lock keys constantly blinking. Once it does that for a minute or so, it goes to a black screen and flashes a message (it includes the words environment batch (or block)). It goes away so quickly I can't tell what it says.I tried booting from my Ubuntu disk but it gives this message:Loading boot logo...error setting up gfxbootWhen I try booting from a Windows 7 install USB it says:error: no such device: then a st...

Hi!I am completely new to ubuntu and so far my friends help me to get it installed and helped me to get started with it.My laptop runs both windows 10 and ubuntu 16.04 and my wifi works fine with I use windows, yet I can't even access wifi networks with ubuntu (I have added images to make illustrate what I mean).Yesterday, I had access to wifi with ubuntu, but it didn't work when when I suspended my session and logged in again. So I ask my friend to help me fix this problem, but now I the situation is even worse (as I described in the last sentence).I have a RTL8723BE wireless network adapter. As i have mentioned I am completely lost and I have absolutely no idea what to do since I am on my o...

Looking at the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system - the Software & Updates screen / Update - I notice, that Automatic updates is set to 'Download and install automatically'. This is bad in a persistent live system. After leaving the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system ruing oveight, I found that it had performed an automatic upgrade:df revealed that the content in casper-rw had increased to 1.6 GiB.This is risky: If not enough space (and inodes) in the casper-rw partition or file, the upgrade operation will be incomplete and fail. There might be big problems even if there is space left in casper-rw, and finally, this is wasting the available space, unless you have a huge casper-r...

So i have install a duel booted Ubuntu Server 16.04 on a separate partition on my HD intended to be used as a webserver. Windows 8 is the other OS. What I want to do is clone my Ubuntu so that if anything goes wrong, I can just reinstall from the clone, an exact copy of the original, is that how it works!?I am new to cloning a "partition" as I have never done it before. I watched some youtube videos and it looked easy with clonezilla, but since my set-up is dual boot I am unsure if it is going to be difficult to get everything to work again. Can anyone give me pointers what I should be looking out for and initials steps?Another question, if I am cloning to an USB exteal drive, does that mean...

I was ruing Ubuntu 14.04 gnome flashback (metacity) before letting the update manager upgrade to 16.04. Ubuntu now only boots to command line. After logging in, the following error appears:-bash: caot create temp file for here-document: Read-only file systemIt looks like the operating system partition got switched to read only at some point but I don't know what to do to fix that or if it's even related. I can live boot from a flashdrive without issue. I would prefer to not have to perform a clean install to fix.Thank you all in advance. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I am at my wits end trying to set up RAID 1 for my OS devices. I feel like I have tried everything but I always get some sort of failure back. Here's what I have done so far that has gotten me the furthest:Both devices:2GB /boot (yes it's big but I really don't care)42GB /12GB swapThat is done on both devices (side note: setting the boot flag never works, it always remains in the off position)Next, I go to configure software RAID and I set RAID 1, 2 disks, 0 spares and choose the partitions accordingly. Once finished, I have my 3 RAID devices, my first one I set to /boot, second is / and third is swap. I get down to the point where it fails to install GRUB on the second disk. I have also tri...
