In my attempt to make a my Mac Mini 1,1 dual boot OSX 10.5 and Ubuntu 14.04, I have set things up incorrectly pertaining to sharing drive space between these OS's. And I don't know how to fix it.My goal is to have the single hard drive divided into partitions for each OS, and another one for files that can be accessed from either OS.I encountered the user ID mismatch problem and tried to fix it by assigning the Ubuntu user ID to 501, to match that of the OSX 10.5 user ID. I did so by trying to follow the instructions I found on this web page: http://lifehacker.com/5702815/the-co...rating-systemsThat procedure had me create a “tempuser” account in Ubuntu. Then us some chown commands on the ho...

Hi everyone. New guy here on the forum.I just installed Lubuntu (XFCE) on an MacBook Pro 2010 13" laptop, which all went fine and dandy. I now want to try out a different Linux Ubuntu flavor but I can't seem to access choosing disks when holding down option at startup. No disks at all show up. The disks do however show up clearly within the Lubuntu installation itself, including the USB boot drive I have created.I have tried changing the mounting options by to just include the USB drive but to no success.Any ideas what might be the cause of this, and how to solve it?Many thanks in advance. So I've been hosting my Plex Media Server and 2 Mumble Servers off my Main Windows 10 Gaming rig for a while now. I just recently built a new machine and threw Ubuntu 14 on it.All was working fine.. I got mumble working great on it..plex was working fine. I ****ed up some settings with Phpmumbleadmin and for some reason DHCP wasn't picking up an IP address from the Router on the ubuntu machine only. Wifi was fine, and Desktop was fine.I decided i probably screwed up apache or myphpadmin or something and decided to just reinstall Ubuntu.Woohoo it was working again. Installed Plex, started copying files over from my NAS for the Plex files/database, walked away and came back to the same issue!!...

Hi. I am looking for a general recommendation on virtual web server requirements (more specifically, ram and virtual processors). I am ruing Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 with LAMPS and WordPress and might add Drupal in the future. The server is going to have minimal traffic.I have a general idea of what I need, but would like to get some advice from those who currently run their own. The web server is ruing on a AMD A10-7700K 3.40GHz with 16GB RAM. Right now I have 2 virtual processors and 4GB RAM dedicated to the VM. Is that overkill? Would one virtual processor and 2GB RAM be efficient enough? Thanks! Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hello. I have an apple iMac from late 2009 with a radeon HD 4850 GPU, on to which I want to put at this point any linux. I have previously asked for help here: http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/sh...d.php?t=309979 however, no one has responded to the thread for a while so I doubt the problem is going to be solved. To reiterate the contents of the above,Whenever I boot from any linux disk, the screen shuts off immediately after grub. Starting fedora in basic graphics mode alleviated this problem, but the subsequent graphics performance was extremely poor and brightens adjustment didn't function, leading me to believe the GPU isn't being utilized at all. I was also unable to find any equivalen...

Since keel version 4.4.0-20, EFI_SECURE_BOOT_SIG_ENFORCE has been enabled--meaning that all keel modules must be signed by a trusted key. Most modules are shipped already signed by a trusted key, however any modules that need to be build by the user themselves (ie. using dkms) are unsigned and will fail to load with a message similar to the one below. Code: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxdrv': Required key not available This is a problem for me because both virtualbox, and the proprietary NVIDIA drivers fall into the category of modules that need to be built by the user. There are two possible solutions for this problem.Disable secure bootEither in the bios or using Code: sudo mo...

Apologies if this is not the right place for this question or it’s been asked 100 times before. I did post the original question on Ask Ubuntu they told me to post the question on Launchpad, and nobody seemed to answer it there. So for a last attempt ill try here!Firstly whoever decided to add the Cellular Data on/off to the menu in OTA-12, You’re a genius thank you, very much appreciated.Right the question. As I never use thescopes I want to remove 95% of them, just to keep the phone clean and to give quickaccess to the ones I do use. There also seems to be a large amount of unwanted files attached to these and it’s all clogging up my phones tiny amountof free space.I know there are ways to...

You may have "disabled remote access" -- except for whatever back doors an intruder has opened. Take it off the web yesterday. It is my humble opinion that the only recourse when your machine has been compromised (assuming your description is accurate, it surely has) is euthanasia, followed by putting the dead carcass on a pyre. Nuke it hard and start over. That is the only option I would consider. You simply caot trust that you can find every evil thing in every coer and remove it.I'm sure you have been keeping regular backups of your important data, have you not?Do you have a roommate, by chance? So, there is some really "weired" problem with ubuntu machines. Actually I'd rather blame our, (and with this I am prone to blame myself, as well), ignorance about IP networking.Slightly explained situation :In the moment, I am having situation like this one :- there are two pc's that I am currently observing in this post, (pc1 and pc2)- in addition to it there are some android devices that should be able to browse any of those two- all those are coected to the same wlan router-repeater------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------the tricky part:a pc2 is coected to this router via usb cable, but Ubuntu is treating this as standar...

No problems... just a chatty observation. For many years, I've had a triple boot MacBookPro. I'd say I spend half the time in Mac, 40% in Linux and 10% in Windows (though with 10, I've been spending more time to lea the OS.)The reason the Mac is preferred is because I'm an audio professional/instructor and I use Pro Tools.Through most of the 90s, I'd say Mac held the lead for visual customization. Perhaps there were more artists on the platform and the tools were better. Now though, I'm hugely disappointed by the lack of options on the Mac. Finding a decent icon set is just about impossible. People have given up on creating Themes and Apple hasn't helped matters by locking down the OS more an...
