I've installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 (also tried Xubuntu 16.04/14.04) on my brand new laptop i5 6200u/8gb/gt940m/240gb. I have problem with ubuntu performance, which doesn't occur on windows, where everything i've tried works just fine. On ubuntu I feel lagging when just typing - e. g. in codeblocks or in chromium.In gtkperf i receive very different results - once it's like 2,5s and next time 20-30s (!).I tried reinstalling ubuntu couple of times, with swap and without it. I'm not easily given to flaming wars, and this is not meant as bashing Firefox, but over the past few weeks with 16.04.1 and 14.04.5 iso and upgrade testing I've been ruing Firefox with totally fresh profiles (so it's not due to cruft in an old profile) and when I go back to my daily driver (based on 14.04.1) I find both Chrome and Opera are downright snappy in comparison. artur,I am having the same issues.When I try to install an NVIDIA driver through the Driver Manager, "Applying changes..." stalls.When I am in linux safe mode, it asks me to disable the Secure Mode before entering the Driver Manager and i am able to get to the reboot.But the reboot fails with a black screen.Thats why i am stuck with the nouveau driver, having the same lacks like slow task switch and terminal responses you mentioned.I am using linux mint 18 xfce. When I first upgraded, I was given a "system is ruing in low graphics mode" message, then everything ran just fine, graphics apparently normal. Hello all.So, I'm ruing an old PNY Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX AGP card in my old P4 Dell Dimension 4500. I am using the open source drivers since the proprietary drivers are not supported on 16.04.For awhile, the performance was great, and I could watch videos with little to no issues.Today, there was an update that I installed. Hi,I have recently bought a HP EliteOne 800 G2 AiO with Intel Core i7-6700 3.4G 8M 2133 4C CPU, 32 GB DDR4-2133 SODIMM (2x16 GB) RAM, 256 GB SATA 2.5 3D SSD.When first booting it in Windows the graphics seems to work as it should. Answer is maybe.Depends on hardware.More likely a probable for graphics than for sound.It's very rare you would need sound drivers beyond those already installed.But if the system works out of the box then you probably don'y need to do anything about drivers.Linux has builtin drivers that support a wide variety of hardware.But if you feel performance lacks then you might look into Ubuntu driver section in the program Software and Updates >> Additional Drivers.If there are any known drivers that are not part of the default install available for your current hardware using your current system.They will be listed and installable from here.
