Hi! I use Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity) on my Dell Inspiron-20-Model-3043 (touch screen).My problem is that the lock screen (ctrl + alt + L) changed to the old style like the one in Ubuntu 10.10, and I don't know why exactly, I don't remember have done anything in particular.maybe it changed after the installation of Unity 8 mir but I didn't notice it until 3 days later so I'm not sure. I booted into ubuntu 14.04, which I was happy with, and it prompted me to upgrade to 16.04. It was late and I didn't read everything properly, and in the process it updated some items like phpmyadmin, php, and mysql that I had installed for a local development web server. Unfortunately, that's caused major issues & now nothing works. I don't want to run newer versions as I know the web application I was using locally doesn't work on newer versions. If you look near the top of every page, there is a link that says, “Please read before SSO login” which leads to this sticky – the SSO registration guide. I have to assume you didn’t (read it, that is) because it tells you about using the correct email in Ubuntu One. You used a different email in Ubuntu One from the one you used to create the andalou account. The sticky also tells you about why and when useames are appended with a number. I have already looked into the system preferences and it dosen't list the native resolution of 1280x1024 that my second monitor has. So when you change to a different theme you're supposed to see something different, right?I don't. I installed this flattastic theme and moved it to themes folder, then selected it like on the screenshot but as you can nothing changed. I love using Ubuntu, but run into this Permission denial problem occasionally and it never seems like the same procedure works twice!In prep for upgrading to 16.04 on my 64-bit desktop, I am copying many essential folders from Home to a 32 Gb USB stick. Hi, as the title says, I(and probably many others) would very much like a system restore function that could be added to GRUB menu, so that in case an update or other things went wrong, then the system could be up and ruing again in no time and ones personal files were safe. All the backup programs that work from inside Ubuntu are no good if you caot get to the desktop or the prompt.Personally I'm using Peach OSI which is built upon Xubuntu 14.04 LTS and later will be updated to 16.04 LTS - I took the jump and are only using linux now and no more windows, only a few programs I were using before don't have linux alteatives and I use them on my other laptop.Hope someone can make this happenWit...

Hello, everybody,I have been moving and resizing partitions with gparted, but I forgot to run update-grub after that. Now, the system boots to a grub2 command line (version 2.02-beta2-9ubuntu1.3, if you need to know).I would like to boot again from the USB to run update-grub and hopefully fix the boot menu, but I am not familiar with grub.ls shows a list of partitions, and (hd0,msdos1) looks like the bootable USB. There are also a few partitions in (hd1, ...) but I don't think any of them is usable.I have tried the following, which I read here: Code: linux (hd0,msdos1)/ntpasswd/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb1 initrd (hd0,msdos1)/ntpasswd/initrd.cgz boot But it hangs. Good day Ubuntu family, I was trying to do a sudo apt-get upgrade yesterday on my system, and the upgrade wasninterrupted and I had to restart my system, upon restarting I was unable to boot into Ubuntu again. So I switched over to console from the blank screen and resumed the upgrade, when the upgrade was completed I then restarted my pc with hope that it should be back to live, to my surprise in grub load I saw Kali Linux keel.
