I just switched from IPS237L-BN (1920×1080) to new Dell P2416D (2560x1440) monitors in a dual setup. And I have the following problem. I get a a message on my monitors stating:"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor. Please change your input timing to 2560×1440, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications." Effectively I don't see my boot/bios screen or any tty's. Once at the logon screen I have 2× highres screens ruing at 2560x1440 without a problem. What works:With a vga cable I see the boot screen and tty's.With DVI-D > HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWith HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWhat doesn't work:With DVI-D > HDMI cable coect...

So the xorg issue with the pointer disappearing has been solved and that is absolutely great! However, I still seem to have a problem with light locker. After suspend, locking the screen or logging out, I see my wallpaper for a second or so, then there is a glitch and tus to the default light blue background. When I change the user to Guest and then back to my account, my wallpaper appears and stays for good.Any ideas as to what might be causing this and/or how to fix it? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hi! I use Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity) on my Dell Inspiron-20-Model-3043 (touch screen). My problem is that the lock screen (ctrl + alt + L) changed to the old style like the one in Ubuntu 10.10, and I don't know why exactly, I don't remember have done anything in particular.maybe it changed after the installation of Unity 8 mir but I didn't notice it until 3 days later so I'm not sure. Something curious is that the login screen works perfectlyThese are the commands I tried until now:sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdmsudo service lightdm restartsudo lightdmBut nothing works, and actually I'm not sure if LightDM controls also the lock screen or only the login screen Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hi,after the update to ubuntu 16.04, my laptop (Samsung NP305E5A) boots to a black screen. The boot process continues since it is obviously reading from the hard drive and also playing the drums sound for the login-window after a while. However, the screen remains black from right after the grub-screen is gone and stays like that. Ctrl+Alt+F2 also does not take me to a usable command line. I found no way for the screen to show anything. However, I did find something one might call a workaround. If I kill the booted laptop by pressing the power button for several seconds and then try the boot process again, ubuntu works absolutely fine with one notable exeption: grub gives me 30 seconds to cho...

Came back to linux because I'm tired of Windows. Ruing into a few issues however. I have a Dell Inspiron 7348, which dell sells with Ubuntu.First, my mouse icons disspears after I recover from sleep. I read this may have something to do with a gnome daemon, I checked and didn't see it. Any idea's here?I have the proprietary Intel video drivers installed, at least I think I do.Also, something I'm not used too, is the jumping. It's so sensitive! I caot find way to reduce the, or even configure the sensitivity, or some sort of palm detection.Lastly, at least so far is the keyboard. Non of my built-in keys like volume etc work. Is there a way to enable them? I would prefer to have the FN key set...

Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

Hello all! I am new to this and am hoping to get some help if possible. I have downloaded the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 15.04 and have installed it on my Dell PowerEdge 2650. The system is set up with 4 hard drives, one as the boot drive and the other 4 as RAID. The install seems to go perfectly, but once the system requires reboot, the screen always goes blank and my monitor says "Input Not Supported". The graphics is ruing from the on board controller.I have tried to hold the Left Shift Key, Right Shift Key, ESC, Arrow Down, CTRL+Alt+F1 and still caot access the GRUB screen I keep reading about. I can see the words "Starting GRUB" or something like that right before the screen goes blank. I...

Hello all, please help:last night I was browsing away not doing anything out of the ordinary and suddenly the computer locked up.It has done it before, but generally when I had a lot of tabs open plus maybe a few other things, spreadsheets, VLC etc. I was thinking it's a memory issue. But last night when it locked that wasn't the case. I only had a few chrome tabs up and I was watching youtube. When it rebooted it gave me a choice of safe mode, memtest or normal boot.Tried normal boot and it got to a totally black screen and didn't do any more.Tried safe mode, and one monitor came up but I had no mouse.I shut it down and went to bed. This moing to my surprise it booted up and seemed fine!Except ...

After applying the latest upgrade instead of prompting for my password, Ubuntu is not sending any signal to my monitor. It gets so far as the 5/6 dots to show it is progressing through boot, but no further. What I have tried already is below:When attempting to run in fail safe graphics mode (from 4.4.0-34-generic (recovery mode) and 4.2.0-42-generic (recovery mode)) I receive the following error: Code: The system is ruing in low-graphics mode Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself. If I select the radio button for try ruing with default graphical mode the black cross cursor appears in the foreground...

It's my understanding that, without additional software, Linux doesn't have a concept of locks on open files.I'm creating a cron job that will periodically copy all files in a Linux directory (call it the "source" directory) to some other Linux directory (call it the "destination" directory), remove the files in the "source" directory, and then do some things with the files in the "destination" directory. The "source" directory is a writable, networked share accessible by several Windows machines. The Windows machines will write files to this "source" directory periodically, but the timing and length of time required to do the copy is unpredictable.I am wondering what will happen if the cron j...

Hi,I have recently upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 and I no longer have a working installation. Specifically, I can get the system to boot to a terminal by modifying the grub entry to read "nosplash --verbose text" as suggested in the sticky for this forum. I am then able to "use" the system via tty1.I have tried many of the things which have been suggested by the author of the sticky titled "Graphics resolution- upgrade/Blank screen after reboot" including attempting to stop and restart lightdm and adjusting the gfxmode but nothing has worked so far.Can someone help me to identify the problem? Where should I look on my system for indications as to what is causing the issue?Any help or advice w...
