Hi,I thought ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso can be used by usb UEFI installation, I copied the iso to a usb stick:$ sudo dd if=/tmp/ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1MPlugged it into a new Dell 11 3000 laptop, the bios boot option list pointed UEFI (the only option), but it could not detect the usb iso, it went to the Windows 10 straight away, what I could be missing here? I have a fresh machine with a fresh install of Ubuntu Gnome.I'm ruing a AMD FirePro w4100.The only drivers available are compatible with xorg 1.10 so I can't use them I don't think.The problem is that all my hardware is compatible with 2560x1440, but the max resolution I can get is 1920x1200.I've attempted to cvt the resolution, add it through xrandr, and assign it to the output.The option appears in Gnome, but when I select it the monitor goes black and loses signal.I've tried it in different ranges of frequency but can't get it to work.I'm not sure where to go from here, any help is appreciated. Hi,My laptop was heating up a bit too much (temperature above 90’s in normal load, and sometimes shutting down after hitting 100C), so I finally decided to open up my Dell XPS 15 (L502X) and replace the thermal paste. I have few questions:When I opened it up, apart from the thermal paste on the cpu (i7-2630QM) and gpu (Nvidia GT-540 2gb), there were several white pads, and one grey pad. The grey pad was above the motherboard HM67 chip. This is the first time I ever saw a heat sink with thermal pad needed to cool down the motherboard. Or am I missing something? Hey there,a few hours ago my Ubuntu has stopped letting me use my laptop keyboard (Lenovo Yoga 13). I suspended it earlier and when I wanted to resume my work I got no input from the keyboard. Touchpad and Trackpoint still worked.After forcing it to reboot I recognized a very strange behavior:Before the initial ramdisk is loaded everything works fine. Hi, I installed 14.04 back around October 2015 on my mid-2009 iMac and noticed fans were pretty loud. At the time, I found some tips online about quieting them; they'd always run loud during boot, but quickly quiet down.I wiped the Ubuntu install the other day and tried 16.04. I have a Mac Pro Quad Core 2.0 Original from 2006. It has EFI 32-bit and requires 32-bit booting. The system contains 64-bit Intel Xeon 5130 CPUs. When I use Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), desktop+amd64 to create a DVD image, then boot the Mac, the system hangs at asking me to select 1 or 2 for DVD type or something of that nature. I caot select 1 or 2. I read some tricks online which say to hold the 1 key down once the DVD starts booting, then press retu when the screen tus black, then hit retu again.
