Hi everyone. New guy here on the forum.I just installed Lubuntu (XFCE) on an MacBook Pro 2010 13" laptop, which all went fine and dandy. I now want to try out a different Linux Ubuntu flavor but I can't seem to access choosing disks when holding down option at startup. No disks at all show up. The disks do however show up clearly within the Lubuntu installation itself, including the USB boot drive I have created.I have tried changing the mounting options by to just include the USB drive but to no success.Any ideas what might be the cause of this, and how to solve it?Many thanks in advance. Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

Okay, so I got a message to upgrade to 16.04. I hit OK and it went through the process. Upon restart, there was no cursor (I think it was invisible). I read somewhere to switch from lightgdm to gdm, and so I did. And this did bring the cursor back. However, upon restart, I get to the Ubuntu screen with the dots and it just sits. Nothing. I would change it back, but I have no idea how to get back into the computer to even do it. Worse comes to worse I can always just do a clean install. Folks,Was ruing 12.04 LTS for some time on my HP laptop with dual core AMD processor.Laptop failed so put HD in exteal USB3 enclosure.Bought new Toshiba 64 bit with quad core AMD A8 processor.Only had it a couple of days, seems to boot my Ubuntu 12.04 fine but curious: pmon only shows ONE processor whereas on my old HP it displayed both processor info.Any ideas why this might be? Hi there,we have computer pools where about 1000 users can login. On a maschine is openSuse and Ubuntu installed. The users choose over the boot manager, which system to start. The home directory from each user is on a nfs-file-system. So does'nt matter, which OS the user starts, the home directory is the same in openSuse and ubuntu.There is a strange problem with the .dmrc file. "Slow" is subjective. Can you post numbers or a link to some performance monitoring data? Something like monit or munin will generate graphs that we can all understand. I don't know how to get conky to capture data that can easily be shared.Systems performance comes down to shared use of:* cpu* ram* network I/O* disk I/OIf those things are below 80% utilized, then look towards misconfiguration or hardware faults. For those - I'd ask, what do the system log files say? A common reason for slowness is a failing HDD or cable or controller or bad switch port or failing router or .... failing RAM or ... you get the idea.
