I've been Googling around for a couple of hours now and haven't had any luck. I'm just trying to add a file to the initramfs within Ubuntu 16.04, but i'm not seeing any kind of simple way to do that. All of the links I've tued up around this are either outdated, or involve complicated scripts added to hooks. I've done this on other distros (most recently Arch), but I'm stuck here. So, how can I add a file to the initramfs so that it gets loaded at boot time? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I had Mythbuntu 14.04 ruing on this machine, but it was getting flaky: some recordings OK, some zero-length, some excessively large and presumably corrupt that would crash the frontend when I tried to play them. I'd applied the various updates that were offered, but they did not cure the problem. Then a day or two ago I was offered the update to 16.04, but that was a disaster, so I saved my recordings to an exteal drive and ran mythconverg_backup.pl and copied the resulting files to the exteal drive as well. Then I tried installing 14.04.5 from scratch but the installation failed -- something involving xfsettingsd -- so I installed 14.04.2. I can watch live TV, but there is no longer a Progr...

Fix segmentation faults by using GRUB_BADRAM parameter in grub.-This is for other newbies that don't want to spend 4 hours ruing all over the Inteet getting clues.-This is for 64 bit everything. I am ruing Kubuntu Xenial.-If you can do better write your own tutorial, or if know of a better thread, speak up.If you have bad memory, and decline to get new memory you can uncomment out something in /etc/default/grub -->GRUB_BADRAM....At boot- hold down shift key, select recovery mode, select memtest86+ and let it do a couple passes, write down the problem address's, then ctl+c or esc. yada yada yadaThere where 600+ errors for me, after reviewing the list they all started with 003fab8**** and 0...

HiI have to buy a replacement laptop and have been looking at the Ubuntu Certified Hardware page.My priorities are:I don't mind if Ubuntu is pre-installed but whether it is or not I want to be able to load different linux OS from scratch, on separate partitions, so I can compare them. Hi everyone. New guy here on the forum.I just installed Lubuntu (XFCE) on an MacBook Pro 2010 13" laptop, which all went fine and dandy. I now want to try out a different Linux Ubuntu flavor but I can't seem to access choosing disks when holding down option at startup. No disks at all show up. The disks do however show up clearly within the Lubuntu installation itself, including the USB boot drive I have created.I have tried changing the mounting options by to just include the USB drive but to no success.Any ideas what might be the cause of this, and how to solve it?Many thanks in advance. Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

I have been ruing my system for about six months, just recently was looking at System Monitor and realised that it was only using 7.8 GB of RAM... I have 32GB installed...So... I read a lot on the forums, but none of the help seemed to fix it.I could be a hardware fault, but because the parts are new. I'd like to try everything before opting for that.So I have a ASRock 970M PRO3 mATX installed, it takes "Max. capacity of system memory: 64GB..."I have x2 sticks of G.Skill 8GB DDR3-2400, the ASRock takes "Supports DDR3 2400+(OC)/2100(OC)/1866(OC)/1800(OC)/1600(OC)/1333/1066 non-ECC..."My OS is Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit.... so I took apart my computer, I made sure it was in the right slots. To run a dos program in Ubuntu you would need to install a dos emulator.(or possible try to run it with wine(which is windows emulator-like program that allows you to run windows programs near natively in Ubuntu), or inside a windows virtual machine)But two choices for a dos emulator aredosbox and dosemuAlso, don't post the .exe file.As that might be in violation of the programs terms of use, et cetra.(and we do not allow violations of terms of use)You can post a link to it's web page, if it has one. I just built a new Ubuntu-only PC (not dual-boot; no Windows), and am today starting it up and ruing tests to make sure everything works properly, plus I have a laptop with the same version of Ubuntu that has been problematic so I want to test that one too, so I need to keep an eye on the temperatures of the CPU and RAM and all that. I want a real-time display (have that with my Windows computer so want something similar), but am getting conflicting answers from web searches.I have seen suggestions for lm-sensors (which I believe is a command-line display, so not what I am looking for unless it shows temperature changes in real-time), system load indicator (not actually sure what this is), a...
