I am an English speaker who often writes in Japanese to friends, etc. I am finding that my Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS install has a weird bug that's frustrating the hell out of me: it doesn't seem to remember my switching the input method from the default, "none," to fcixt or ibus. Nearly all the instructions I can find online say "Go to Preferences, Language Support, and choose either ibus or fcixt, logout, then log back in."But when I do that, the same "none" is back, always preselected. Any settings I change require relogging in...which means they vanish.I can see the nice input window sitting there. But it just doesn't DO anything...I hit "cntl-space" and it appears or disappears, but never all...
ادامه مطلبHi,I just installed Ubuntu on an old MacBook(mid-2010). The trackpad was a pain so I searched around and found out about mtrack. I have it installed and have it configured so it works how I want. However, I have no right click capabilities and I can't figure out how to set that up. I've tried googling but it seems largely about double-clicking for right or using two fingers. What I want is the bottom right coer of the trackpad to act as a right click on click( or tap ).The problem is I don't really know what the options in the configuration file mean. I've just been trial/erroring. Again, googling for that information just results in a lot of threads from different forums where people have p...

ادامه مطلبFirst of all, it's not a misspelling. It's "input not support". I have an AOC monitor, and an ASUS STRIX 1070.I create the bootable usb stick in win10, reboot, and when I press "Install Ubuntu" then it just goes black screen with a floating "input not supported". I had ubuntu before (before having the VGA), same version (16.04), and everything worked just fine. What can I do? ادامه مطلبGreetings,I have an audio device that ALSA interprets as only accepting a 32-bit little-endian data format. And I would like to play "normal" 16-bit music to that device. To add one extra wrinkle: I am fairly certain this device is a 24-bit audio device. It's the miniDSP usbstreamer B unit, and the product webpage describes it as 24-bit (with 32-bit inteal processor). Is there a quick and effective way to convert the music on-the-fly, i.e. like when I call mplayer on the audio file? Ideally it would be something that could be put into the /var/lib/alsa/asound.conf file. Barring that, I want to drive this usb audio device by MPD, so if this could be done in the mpd config file, great. In case y...

ادامه مطلبHello, I have Ubuntu Mate installed on my Raspberry Pi 3. I am loving it so far.I seem to struggle with installing another language "Korean."Here is what I did:I went into Language Support and added Korean there although I can't move it to under English (US). When I try to move it to top or under English (US) it would just go back to bottom of the list again and Korean is shown grey in the list. I also tried two different input methods, "XIM" and "fcitx." I also went into Keyboard Preference and added Korean there although there are two different Korean, I am not sure which to use since both layouts still use English's layout so both do not work.I think I am missing something. I tried to sea...
ادامه مطلبRead someone's post a year or so back about using DDC/CI to control the monitor settings from the command line, I've faffed on and off but struggled finding a ddc tool that worked until recently. So decided to write this guide up as this topic doesn't come up often so thought some might find it useful.Host: Ubuntu 16.04 | Intel IGP for host only | GTX 970 for passthroughStep #1Nabbed the ddctool source from http://www.ddctool.com/, compiled, added my local user to the i2c group. Couple of dependencies I needed to work through the **** ache being the libxrandr-dev package but that was only because it was new to me. Code: ddctool detect...
ادامه مطلبI have a IP/USB webcam script that fetches images every 1.2 seconds on average from 3 cameras, converts to a jpeg, then zips the jpegs up every 2 minutes (and generates a 64 color GIF for mobile viewing). This works flawlessly. And since I'm using /dev/shm, it's not doing 250,000+ disk writes a day, saving my hard disk. I have another script that kicks off at 3 AM to unzip all the jpeg images to /dev/shm , then write them all to a mp4 file with avconv. When the image count was under 50,000 files, this worked great as well. Now that the image count is over 50,000, it is failing, without generating any error at all. Code: EMail="" SourceFolder="/home/astump/Desktop/var/www/Get/Cams/Archive/" U...
ادامه مطلبHiOk I'm stuck. I'm a noob when it comes to Linux but I'm leaing fast! Be gentle with me please I hope these terms and assumptions/understandings are right...I originall had XRDP setup using KDE as the GUI.I had keyboard layout set to US so I've tried about a dozen ways to set it as GB and used guides posted around the web to do this. None of them worked. I've not got a problem where the keyboard just won't type for the login box to XRDP and I've began trying to get this solved...I tried upgrading XRDP package (SSH) which hadn't done anything. I was hoping that it would rewrite the keyboard settings in /etc/xrdp/. I tried uninstalling 'remove' and reinstalling 'install' which I thought would...
ادامه مطلبHello, I'm currently a new user on Ubuntu Forums. Hopefully I can change my useame after reaching ten posts, but before doing so... I need some help.I'm new to Linux, but not in technology terms so I'll try to make myself very brief.Ubuntu 16.04 is having issues with my audio, (Line out) and switching it to headphones for a split-second, which then realizes there is no headphones... which later on falls back to regular Line out.Audio cuts off, and this is a fresh install. Live CD/USB did the same thing, but thought it was related to third party drivers, but its not. I checked the contacts of the motherboard, and they're all clean. I also made sure the headphone/mic jack is clean, and they ar...

However, after the install in Language Support I chose English to "apply system-wide", but this seems to have been applied only to the 4.2.0-34 that I booted up with when I changed the settings. At least that's what I think happened. So, how would I change the ke...

ادامه مطلبHi,I've decided to make some upgrades to my pc ruing Ubuntu 14.04.First off is to bump the memory up to 8GB (currently at 2GB). That's a pretty easy decision.Next up is to re-build my storage, and here's where I'd like some input. My uses for this machine are as follows: General home pc (browsing, email, dedit docs, etc). Used by the whole family. Video Capture, editing, and storage Music rip and storage (I transfer to another device for streaming Photo editing and storage My current plan (wiling to change):500GB SSD with Root, Swap, and Home. I've read a lot about swap on an SSD and it seems like it's not much of an issue anymore. I'm hoping that with 8GB of mem and reducing swappiness this ...
