[ubuntu] Input Signal Out Of Range: Won't coect to home wireless New User, New Install 14.04

Hi, I'm a new Linux user, (refugee from Win 7Pro, fleeing Windows 10).
New install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS from DVD. Will not coect to home wireless.
At every launch Ubuntu gives a slowly floating popup saying "Input Signal Out Of Range".
Installed as dual boot with factory-installed Windows 7 Professional on Dell Latitude E5420 laptop with separate monitor (both work), automatically launches to Ubuntu unless I direct it to Windows 7 on bootup.
Libre works, offline.

It will not coect to wireless home inteet (Verizon), I think Fios, USA.

Because new Linux is not working I accessed this forum via Windows.
What can I do to make Linux work? Thanks in advance.
