[server] "ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/X-X-X-X does not exist." when booting Ubuntu with Xen

Well, I decided to go ahead and try Ubuntu server with Xen to virtualize stuff. This is mostly because my server is a bit older Opteron machine, which doesn't support full hardware virtualization, so KVM is out and VirtualBox doesn't have as good performance as Xen. Also, I'd like to use zfs (as it's finally supported properly in Linux, yay!) from Dom0 as the storage for various virtual machines. So, I tried to install Xen according to instructions (minus LVM part): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/XenBut I get this error when trying to boot Ubuntu with Xen. When I choose plain Ubuntu from the Grub menu, then it boots just fine.Gave up waiting for root device. Common probleMs:— Boot args (ca...

[ubuntu] LiveCD - /dev/loop1 full causing mmap error

Good evening all,I am working with an Ubuntu LiveCD via 16GB flash drive to ultimately fix a WD mycloud 3TB hard drive. Upon installing v.14.04, updating all packages, and then proceeding to install the progs necessary to fix the drive, i am not confronted with this error, when ruing Code: sudo apt-get install mdadm from terminal, i get this error: Code: Reading package lists... Error! E: Unable to synchronize mmap - msync (5: Input/output error) E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. Googling let me to understand this is a space issue, however, i have plenty of room on the flash drive. When ruing Code: df -h , i find that /dev/loop1 full. Not sure why it is sized...

TESTED ON KUBUNTU 16.04 LTSIf you experience flickering/flashing panel in plasma 5 with intel graphics, follow this tutorial to fix it.Fix/workaround is to use DRI3 instead of default DRI2. Devede produces unplayable .iso?

Had a few little hitches with the upgrade to 16.04, but nothing major... until now. Was helping my boy make a DVD for his mom for Mother's Day. Used Devede, converted some .mp4 and .mkv files, it produced an ISO image, I bued it.Then, it wouldn't play on a Playstation 3 or a Playstation 4, or in any DVD playing software. Has anyone else successfully produced a working DVD on 16.04? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

[lubuntu] Can no longer download "Pointing Devices" from Lubuntu Software Centre

Hey guysI used to have the above-mentioned program, but, after an update, it disappeared. I tried reinstalling it via lubuntu software centre, but, after I added it to the apps basket and looked in the apps basket, it wasn't there and the "Install Packages" button was greyed out and thus un-clickable. I tried going to synaptic package manager and installing the same thing (here called gpointing-device-settings), but, when I tried to click "Mark for Installation", it came up with an error message displayed below:2016-05-09-204736_1024x600_scrot.pngI used to use this program to disable touchpad "tapping" (the ability for the touchpad to recognise a tap to its main section as a click), which I ...

[ubuntu] Lots of processes running grep -E -l ^[0-5] /dev/.bootchart/* eating up CPU big time

Hello,I recently upgraded my machines to 16.04. For some reason, now one of them (at least the only 1 I've noticed so far) seems to slow to a crawl quite often. When I run top, I'm shown that there's usually several processes of grep ruing and using up at least 40% CPU, sometimes tapped out to 100%.top -c shows me things like grep -E -l ^[0-5] /dev/.bootchart/proc/blah blah and then a pagemap file. I also saw it ruing on /dev/.bootchart/proc/kcore one time.It seems when it starts it's scaing glance-api and glance-registry so I thought maybe that had something to do with it, but then it started going through other files. If I kill these they just respawn. Rebooting seems to work for a bit and ...

[SOLVED] Usb audio devices

Hi there fellow Ubunters I have a usb headset which used to function perfectly until ... this moing. The headset is not faulty I believe. Methinks it has everything to do with ALSA Mixer. What happens when I plug my usb headset is that it only gives a static sound and the speakers are not muted and go on playing sound.I have just found a page about UbuntuStudio / usbdevices and I quote:"Most mode Linux distributions use a hot-pluggable architecture for USB devices. This is very useful for everyday use, but it becomes difficult for pro-audio use, as ALSA device numbers (hw:X) are not stable across reboots, or even when removed and reinserted. This means that Jack has to be reconfigured after ...

[ubuntu] After upgrade to 2016.04, cannot access USB fat32 storage devices (permission)

Recently I upgraded to the new 16.04 Ubuntu on my dual boot iMac.Now, when a USB device (fat32) is plugged in, a message is displayed indicating that the permissions are undiscoverable. I caot access the device or files.I found a potential one-off solution for one devic, using a label. In /etcfstab I entered the following:LABEL=STICK /media/lexar vfat rw,uid=1004,gid=users 0I seek a more general solution, since I suspect that this is a bug; Ubuntu has always made light work of mounting USB drives of any nature. Can someone indicate whether this is a problem due to incomplete updating or a bug?THank youAlan Davis Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Ubuntu 16.04 KVM physical USB devices not passing to guest

Hello! I've recently got GPU passthrough working on my machine, the only problem being the physical usb devices don't want to move from the host to the Windows 10 guest.
