I've been using 14.04, and just used the upgrade command.Things happened, it asked me if I wanted to keep my grub config file or use the new one.I chose to use the new one. It sat for a while, then rebooted.On reboot, it brings up a GNU GRUB version 2.02 beta2-9ubuntu1.12 label at the top, with a grub prompt.Nothing works now.Does anybody know how to get past this??? Hi,after the update to ubuntu 16.04, my laptop (Samsung NP305E5A) boots to a black screen. The boot process continues since it is obviously reading from the hard drive and also playing the drums sound for the login-window after a while. However, the screen remains black from right after the grub-screen is gone and stays like that. Ctrl+Alt+F2 also does not take me to a usable command line. I found no way for the screen to show anything.However, I did find something one might call a workaround. Hello.My friend has Ubuntu, the previous LTS, installed on her Asus EEE PC 1000H laptop. She is considering to upgrade to Xenial Xerus. I'm trying to upgrade from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and having a great deal of trouble about it.I became aware that a new version is available via popup notification on the desktop asking me if I want to upgrade to 16.04. I tell it "yes, update." It goes through a series of processes and ultimately gives me an error message saying I don't have enough space in some part of the hard drive, and to empty my trash and clean-out temporary files from old distros with Code: sudo apt-get clean I'm pretty sure that was the command. I have installed ubuntu server 12.04 from a LiveCD adn it works fine with me. Now I need to upgrade to ubuntu 13.10. When I first upgraded, I was given a "system is ruing in low graphics mode" message, then everything ran just fine, graphics apparently normal. When I restarted it some time after, however, after selecting Ubuntu on grub, it gives me a screen that, to my memory (didn't have the time to screencap), seems to imply that something is wrong with the disk, after which it goes blank for a bit, then very briefly shows a bunch of rainbow static combined with a mosaic of my desktop. Hi,I have recently upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 and I no longer have a working installation. Specifically, I can get the system to boot to a terminal by modifying the grub entry to read "nosplash --verbose text" as suggested in the sticky for this forum. I am then able to "use" the system via tty1.I have tried many of the things which have been suggested by the author of the sticky titled "Graphics resolution- upgrade/Blank screen after reboot" including attempting to stop and restart lightdm and adjusting the gfxmode but nothing has worked so far.Can someone help me to identify the problem?
