Answer is maybe.Depends on hardware.More likely a probable for graphics than for sound.It's very rare you would need sound drivers beyond those already installed.But if the system works out of the box then you probably don'y need to do anything about drivers.Linux has builtin drivers that support a wide variety of hardware.But if you feel performance lacks then you might look into Ubuntu driver section in the program Software and Updates >> Additional Drivers.If there are any known drivers that are not part of the default install available for your current hardware using your current system.They will be listed and installable from here. I am doing a series of upgrades to get all our systems here onto 16.04 and want to use a proxy to reduce usage of our limited bandwidth coection for this process. I've set up a squid-deb-proxy, which works perfectly with my 14.04 machine, but when I try with the newly installed 16.04 system it ignores the proxy and fetches direct everything, UNLESS I first start a Wireshark(1) capture on the etheet port! then everything works fine If I run /usr/share/squid-deb-proxy-client/apt-avahi-discover from terminal it retus nothing, but I note that if I run wireshark(2) on another machine the request is sent and an answer is given. Okay, here's the problem: I use the analog line out jacks for 5.1 audio, since I've had mixed success with my speakers' SPDIF support. Hello,After a recent reinstallation, I'm unable to open Firefox normally--I receive the error message, Code: Firefox is already ruing, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. Hello all, I've had great success using these forums for fixing problems I've had in the past, so I'm giving it another go.I have a logical volume filesystem.I need to enlarge one of my partitions/LVs to make room.. it's 30g capacity is now full. There may be a LOT of stuff in Ubuntu Studio that you will never use, so try that and Ubuntu in a live session to see which you like best before installing. I think you are misunderstanding me. I didn't mess with filesystem types or anything really. I used start up disk creator and put Kubuntu 16.10 on my flash drive, just to see what it was about. After testing it out, I logged back into Ubuntu and I needed to move a ton of files via my flash drive to a different computer, so I just did the right click - format and used the default settings to erase the Kubuntu stuff.
