Hi,I have recently upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 and I no longer have a working installation. Specifically, I can get the system to boot to a terminal by modifying the grub entry to read "nosplash --verbose text" as suggested in the sticky for this forum. I am then able to "use" the system via tty1.I have tried many of the things which have been suggested by the author of the sticky titled "Graphics resolution- upgrade/Blank screen after reboot" including attempting to stop and restart lightdm and adjusting the gfxmode but nothing has worked so far.Can someone help me to identify the problem? When I login on my laptop after ~minute the display is dimming to 50% then 100% and can do nothing about it.When I have a second monitor coected to my laptop (mirroring or extended desktop) the same thing happens with my laptop monitor, but the exteal monitor is working.Any help? I have ssh access to an Ubuntu 16.04 box and I am normally able to coect, via x11vnc, using -display :0 -coect [server.tld]. It isn't a headless system and this only seems to work, when there is someone logged in. When the machine is at the login screen, however, the vnc screen is black, with a cursor. I have tried Code: sudo x11vnc -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -display :0 -forever -bg -coect [server.tld] but it doesn't make a difference. The screen is still black, with a cursor. Hey all,I have a huge long complicated password to login, so my home folder encryption is a bit stronger. However, this then means using sudo is a huge pain. I'd like to use a slightly easier sudo password... something a malicious script or snooping user couldn't crack without effort, but also something easier on my fingers when I issue many sudos in many terminal windows. Hi,I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on an Acer Aspire V3-771G w/ Nvidia GT 640M (plus Intel onboard graphics/Optimus technology).Nouveau works without issues. I installed 16.04 for my parents, I created an account during installation, then from that account I ran:adduser useameusermod -aG sudo useameafter which the new user was fine, BUT the original user can't login anymore (the password isn't accepted).I launched a recovery mode and reset the password with:mount -rw -o remount /passwd useenameafter which I could login, BUT after a reboot the sotuation as reverted back to not accepting the password.I read about a few possible commands that could solve similar problems, but I'd like to understand what's going on, or at least how to diagnose this problem. I dual boot Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Windows 10. The installation of 16.04 seemed to go really well, and I've gotten everything set up the way I like, but I'm having a couple of weird bugs that are really aoying. I'm ruing a month old install of 14.04.5-LTS.This moing when I went to work, I powered-down the system as normal and noted nothing amiss. I have an Ubuntu 15.10 machine that has been ruing fine for Months. This moing I ran the updates and the only thing I saw was a keel update. There could have been something else, but the keel is all I saw. The update seemed to run fine, but upon reboot I am presented with the login screen. I should note here that this is a single user machine into which I am auto logged in. Anyway, on this login screen I see three users named "Comment", one "Samba Guest", and one "Guest".
