I'm often ruing a simultaneous VNC window alongside a regular native X session. From time to time, and with no rhyme or reason that I can detect, my X window session hangs, producing a black screen. The keyboard isn't frozen (I can see the caps-lock go on), but hitting Alt-F4 or Cntl-Alt-F4 doesn't bring me to a terminal.I'm talking about weeks or months...it's not common! The odd thing is that my VNC session still is fine, and I can access everything fine. But to get back to a working X session, I've had to always close everything out and hard power down the computer. Then reboot. Is there a way to just type something via the command line that will keep the VNC session going and just refresh ...

Currently there is no FF 48 for Power BE platforms. However, there is a way of enabling a major feature of 48 while using 47 - multiprocesses whice improves FF for me on my non 3D or 2D enabled installation (Southe Islands card):"browser.tabs.remote.force-enable" => add a new boolean to about:config and give it the setting "true".* SLIGHT WARNING *Some older extensions that haven't been updated might have issues with this setting.Let's block ads! بخوانید...

So I consider myself if not an uber computer geek at least a "power user", and tried to keep my dual boot setup of Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 for as long as I could. I need Windows currently because of some Windows-only software I need for my classes (hopefully won't need these ever again after I graduate). I was really fed up with Windows 10 (don't like all the telemetry crap, don't use the Windows app store, Cortana, forced updates, confusing settings options, interface in general). My last straw was the other night I had some school documents open and unsaved, and Windows decided to just restart on its own to apply some updates. So I backed everything up, completely wiped Windows 10, did ...

Hello there, I work in a lab with 13 PCs, 12 of them ruing Lubuntu and the last one ruing Ubuntu. Recently I dicided to update these systems so I did update 2 of them (the Ubuntu and one of the Lubuntu, I've used apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade). Since then the Lubuntu and the Ubuntu that I have updated are freezing randomly (the PC freezes and I have to restart it using the power button of the case), I can't find any particular reason that would lead these PCs to freeze, they have 4GBs of RAM (Lubuntu) and 8GBs of RAM (Ubuntu) and run all the time with more than 2,5GB free (the Lubuntu run most of times with over than 80% of CPU utilization, though). These two PCs with problems run ...

I tried to switch to Ubuntu a few months ago and downloaded it from somewhere, I did not realize at that time that Ubuntu had a dedicated website. I downloaded some Ubuntu 12 or something and was able to get it installed and working but never could get it to work right and then was unable to figure out how to get it off of my computer. It was a tad vexing, but I eventually figured it out, I have been using that as a means of partitioning and working with hard drives ever since, some handy features in there. In the mean time I reinstalled windows 8 on my laptop, which it came with but some of the drivers would not install properly, it took some time but after 6 installations and going every tr...

I'm not easily given to flaming wars, and this is not meant as bashing Firefox, but over the past few weeks with 16.04.1 and 14.04.5 iso and upgrade testing I've been ruing Firefox with totally fresh profiles (so it's not due to cruft in an old profile) and when I go back to my daily driver (based on 14.04.1) I find both Chrome and Opera are downright snappy in comparison. This is all on the same hardware, and I did try Firefox on my daily driver with a fresh profile to be sure it wasn't a Xenial specific issue.I had mostly switched from Firefox to Chrome and/or Opera anyway just for aesthetics sake (yes, Firefox has tried to become a near clone) but noticing how much slower Firefox has beco...

Is there a safe subscription podcast receiver software for Lubuntu?I am using Lubuntu 14.04 LTS. I have downloaded and manipulated various MP3 files for a while. For example, I have copied MP3 files from audio CDs and split them, etc. Then played them on my PC or bued a new audio CD.But particular websites seem to require a subscription to a "podcast receiver" software. Do I need to subscribe to such a podcast receiving software? See, for example,http://books.mcgraw-hill.com/podcast/acm/ or http://www.cmecoer.com/podcasthelp.aspOne such advertised podcast software is "Juice," see http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/index.phpAnother one is itunes, see http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/Doe...
