I installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 about a week ago on a partition from my Windows 10 OS. Since then, I have been able to successfully use Grub to choose either windows or Ubuntu to boot. Just now, however, I restarted and the Grub menu didn't appear. The bios menu also did not appear. It then booted straight into Ubuntu. This happened after I tried to hard restart with the power button and the prompt appeared suggesting that I save files first. My files were all saved, but I exited out and saved them all anyways, and then shut down just from the actual software option. Settings seem to have changed as well. For example, my desktop is now stuck at 1024x768, while before I was at 1920x1080. The only ...

I was ruing Ubuntu 14.04 gnome flashback (metacity) before letting the update manager upgrade to 16.04. Ubuntu now only boots to command line. After logging in, the following error appears:-bash: caot create temp file for here-document: Read-only file systemIt looks like the operating system partition got switched to read only at some point but I don't know what to do to fix that or if it's even related. I can live boot from a flashdrive without issue. I would prefer to not have to perform a clean install to fix.Thank you all in advance. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Has anyone experience of setting up plex on a Lan? I am using the Roku (Now TV) as the receiver of the videos, but having reinstalled Ubuntu I can not set up the plex server to see any of the files I wish to stream.I have tried:Going to the exteal HD where the files are located and creating a link into the home directory.Changing the permissions on the link and the Ext HD drive to 777 (I don't think the drive ownership changed). The link in the home director to the ext HD can not be seen in plex as an entry in the home directory.Pointing plex to the actual directory within the Ext HD drive. The HD can be seen, but not the directory with the files for streaming.Has anyone got round this probl...

I've been Googling around for a couple of hours now and haven't had any luck. I'm just trying to add a file to the initramfs within Ubuntu 16.04, but i'm not seeing any kind of simple way to do that. All of the links I've tued up around this are either outdated, or involve complicated scripts added to hooks. I've done this on other distros (most recently Arch), but I'm stuck here. So, how can I add a file to the initramfs so that it gets loaded at boot time? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

As the title says my etheet keeps discoecting roughly 5 mins after plugging in the etheet cable. If I plug it out and back in again it works perfectly for another 5 mins. I have a USB to LAN coection when I use that I have no coections whatsoever, it only happens when I plug the etheet cable into the on board etheet port on my laptop. The coection isn't loose and the wire isn't damaged in any way. Any ideas what's causing this? I read somewhere TLP was causing LAN issues and so I uninstalled TLP yet the issue is still their. grateful for any help received on the matter. Here is the output of lspci: Code: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller (rev 09) ...

Hi,after the update to ubuntu 16.04, my laptop (Samsung NP305E5A) boots to a black screen. The boot process continues since it is obviously reading from the hard drive and also playing the drums sound for the login-window after a while. However, the screen remains black from right after the grub-screen is gone and stays like that. Ctrl+Alt+F2 also does not take me to a usable command line. I found no way for the screen to show anything. However, I did find something one might call a workaround. If I kill the booted laptop by pressing the power button for several seconds and then try the boot process again, ubuntu works absolutely fine with one notable exeption: grub gives me 30 seconds to cho...

I don't know if this is a Flashback issue or not, but I have this issue on all my Yakkety boxes, which have Flashback installed. When doing an update and clicking show details, UM will give you one line of download information and then 10-15 lines of terminal progress, unless you clicked show details after it downloaded all the files and were already installing them, you only get one line of terminal output. If you manage to click details while downloading and if you manage to maximize the window still while downloading, it will give you more terminal lines when installing.update_mangler2.png Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Since making a clean install of 16.04.1 just over a week ago, I've had Thunar 1.6.10 (which came with the UbuntuStudio distro) fall over very frequently when I rename a file.Sometimes it happens on the first file I rename, sometimes on the 3rd or even higher. Once it has fallen over, it happens more frequently during the session. By fall-over, I mean Thunar just vanishes from the screen and has to be restarted. The rename operation was completed each time and no data is lost (so far) so it is just aoying rather than worrying.I never had this happen in UStudio 14.04 during the two years or so that I was using it. Has anyone else had this happen ? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I have an AMD box, Asus Sabertooth 990FX mobo (uses UEFI BIOS; no legacy mode), Kubuntu 16.04, root disk was/is a GPT partitioned SSD(s). I cloned the old Patriot Pyro 120 GB SSD to a new Samsung 850 Pro 512 SSD using the latest Clonezilla live DVD. Wouldn't boot new SSD.So I booted from the Kubuntu 16.04 Live DVD and did the following: Although the old SSD had only two partitions and booted fine, ruing the bootinfo script on the new SSD said I needed a BIOS boot partition on it. Thus I used gparted to create 2 MB space at the front of the new SSD, by compressing the old / partition, then fixed the partition order so that the new partition was partition 1, and set that partition as the BIOS ...

Hello all! I am new to this and am hoping to get some help if possible. I have downloaded the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 15.04 and have installed it on my Dell PowerEdge 2650. The system is set up with 4 hard drives, one as the boot drive and the other 4 as RAID. The install seems to go perfectly, but once the system requires reboot, the screen always goes blank and my monitor says "Input Not Supported". The graphics is ruing from the on board controller.I have tried to hold the Left Shift Key, Right Shift Key, ESC, Arrow Down, CTRL+Alt+F1 and still caot access the GRUB screen I keep reading about. I can see the words "Starting GRUB" or something like that right before the screen goes blank. I...
