apt-get upgrade Now boots to GNU GRUB prompt - can't get past it

  • نیلوبلاگ

I've been using 14.04, and just used the upgrade command.Things happened, it asked me if I wanted to keep my grub config file or use the new one.I chose to use the new one. It sat for a while, then rebooted. On reboot, it brings up a GNU GRUB version 2.02 beta2-9ubuntu1.12 label at the top, with a grub prompt.Nothing works now.Does anybody know how to get past this??? • Ubuntu 16.04 boots into emergency mode when fstab entry not really present

  • نیلوبلاگ

I have a USB drive at work that's specified in fstab (although the pathname says RAID it's not an array, just a single USB drive of 2 Tb). In 14.04, when I booted the computer without the drive coected, I would get an option during boot to skip that and then it would boot just fine. In 16.04 however, it boots into emergency mode instead. I can get around this by booting in startup mode but it's really aoying. How can I get around this? My fstab entry for the drive looks like this: Code: #USB drive UUID=1ade5a24-10bf-4010-aa99-75fb16d4ce32 /home/user_id/RAID ext4 rw,user 0 0 Let's block ads! بخوانید...

  • 16.04.1 upgrade from 14.04 boots to black screen.

  • نیلوبلاگ

I got the 16.04.1 upgrade notice and started it through terminal with do-release-upgrade. It threw a lot of dpkg errors near the end, but said the update was complete despite the errors. I tried to sort out the errors before restarting, and somewhere along the way ruing apt-get autoremove was suggested (I think after ruing apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). After that I opened update manager to see if things were okay, and all it said was that a restart was needed. On restart rub tries to boot to the new keel, but doesn't do anything besides showing a black screen. Selecting the previous keel (3.16.7-031607) drops straight to a command prompt.Starting the previous keels recovery mod...

  • Ubuntu boots to recovery since adding extra HDD's

  • نیلوبلاگ

Hi, still pretty new to Ubuntu, so please go easy on me I've setup a NAS server on Ubuntu 16.x in my HP MicroserverEverything working well, until I added a couple of extra drives to the 4 baysNow, it boots into recovery mode, saying it can't find an ext4 partition on sdcFrom what I can determine, Grub is expecting the install to exist on sdc, but where I've added the extra drives, by boot drive has been relegated to sde(If I take the new drives out, I can boot to the install no problem)From what I've read, I think that I need to 'install' grub to sde - but first need to get recovery to boot to the system (as of course sde doesn't exist when I take the drives out)So, within Recovery, I've ins...

  • Strange way needed to login to Ubuntu Forums today

  • نیلوبلاگ

Today, I have had difficulty logging in to the forums. Initially I would go through normal steps of entering my email address associated and password but, was asked a few times to enter a new password. I did not. I was able and still am able to use the same credentials to log into Launchpad. They are the same.In subsequent attempts at log in, I have started getting this message instead of the above message: Code: vBulletin Message Invalid Redirect URL (https://ubuntuforums.org?) I looked on the bottom of the page of that message and on the right it has:Ubuntu Forums If I clicked on it the log in process starts again and (I would be after re-entering my login credentials) back to message a...

  • [ubuntu] Strange problem when fixing grub after windows 7 re-install

  • نیلوبلاگ

Hi Guys,I have a strange problem to which I could not find a solution. After re-install of Windows 7 thanks to a Windows 10 upgrade that essentially made my PC a random blue screen creator, I now need to fix grub to re-enter my ubuntu partition. I am using ubuntu 14.04.I tried to follow this thread http://askubuntu.com/questions/88384...alling-windows but for some strange reason I caot mount the partition that holds the important folders (sda4). Instead I can only mount sda5, a subpart of sda4 containing only a folder named after my useame. If that made little sense, I attached a screenshot of what GParted showed me to make it clearer.Screenshot from 2016-07-10 00:02:49.pngScreenshot from 201...

Hello,I'm not sure if this is a correct forum section to place it, if not please move the thread. Also sorry for my crappy english slang, but I'm not a natively english. My Win7 is broken and unbootable, I already spent 2 days to fix it, but with no success. I'm already writing my post from Rescatux rescue CD, which has an inteet browser built-in (almost unsuable btw. I'm happy that I even could get to register on the forums). Now the dramatic horror story...I had a working dual-boot Windows 7 64bit UEFI GPT + WUBI Xubuntu 14.04 UEFI 64bit over it, for some time (installed as a standalone application under Windows 7 on the Windows 7 partition), but two days ago I decided to remove Xubuntu fr...

Hello,I had a working dual-boot Windows 7 64bit UEFI GPT + WUBI Xubuntu 14.04 UEFI 64bit over it, for some time (installed as a standalone application under Windows 7 on the Windows 7 partition), but two days ago I decided to remove Xubuntu from my computer, so I booted to Windows 7 and entered into Add/Remove Programs panel and clicked on uninstall Wubi Xubuntu, but that **** did not want to uninstall - just a some window appeared + a rotating circle (of a mouse cursor), like something is being uninstalled and going on, but after several seconds the window and the circle have disappeared, and Xubuntu still has not been uninstalled and still was visible in Add/Remove programs and Xubuntu fol...

  • [ubuntu] New install of 16.04 boots to grub rescue

  • نیلوبلاگ

Years ago grub would not boot from any drive over about 650GB. Supposedly fixed. But I still suggest that ESP and/or bios_grub be at begiing of all new drives. And if drive may later be used on an UEFI system, include ESP now as not large compared to drive size and difficult to add at begiing of drive later. UEFI recommended ESP be first, but even Windows makes it second or third partition, but still near begiing of drive.I always partition with ESP, FAT32 with boot flag and 300 to 500MB, bios_grub unformatted 1 or 2MB, / (root) at 25GB or so, unless server then maybe more, and rest of drive as either /home and/or /mnt/data partition(s). I typically have several / (root) partition created as ...

I have just plugged in my USB to transfer a couple of files to it for printing at an inteet cafe. It mounts correctly, I have deleted the files that were on there no problems and I can create new folders and files without issues. However whenever I try and copy a file onto it I get an error message saying the device is Read Only when this clearly isn't the case.I use Ubuntu Studio but I guess as I have a non-standard installation with Thunar 1.6.3 from Trusty installed in place on 1.6.10 as features which are missing from the latest version are critical to the way I work I guess I will get little help on here. I'm in the process of installing gparted to see if it works after a reformat. Stil...

  • plymouth, gdm, bootscreen, login, startup, shutdown

hi everybody, firstly (MOST IMPORTANT):i made plymouth to say 'hi tom' on startup to me, BUT i'd also like it to say 'bye tom' on shutdown (or restart)....now, as far as i can figure, there is no such trigger in the /usr/share/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-gnome-logo/ubuntu-gnome-logo.script file. i believe i will have to add some lines of code - but which ones? something completely different:well any plymouth-motion stops way too quick - which means you have a flightless spier hanging around while waiting for gdm (yes ubuntu 16 is really slow - i mean SLOW!!!! - i am coming from 15.10 - and no, it's not my computer - maybe my swap is a bit too big - but that should fade away with time) - ok then gd...
