  • Xenial Xerus upgrade on Asus EEE PC 1000H

  • Hello. My friend has Ubuntu, the previous LTS, installed on her Asus EEE PC 1000H laptop. She is considering to upgrade to Xenial Xerus. Are there any guarantees if the upgrade succeeds, and whether it works well enough? The current LTS Ubuntu works on the laptop, it is really slow but works. The laptop has 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Kingston SSD, GPU is probably Intel GMA.Has anybody else experiences on running Xenial Xerus on EEE PC 1000H?What are the possible problems one should expect when upgrading and after the upgrade (if it succeeds)? • [lubuntu] Errors when booting - Updated form 14.04 16.04 Asus Ultrabook

  • Hello.Am a Linux novice. Performed an on-line update from 14.04 to 16.04 on my laptop which is an Asus Ultrabook. It has an 1T SSD and is dual-boot with Windows 8.1 via grub. Have done the same upgrade on my Intel i7 desktop without issue. It however DOES NOT have an SSD.During boot, there are errors reported that I cannot decipher and, I believe, has to do with Ubuntu recognizing my SSD (sd9?). It is a Corsair SSD. During boot it performs some sort of disk diag that runs for 1m 50s? Sometimes it won't boot at all and I have to do the three-finger-salute (control-alt-delete).Have a copy of my dmsg file and have attached it... (after I looked up where to find it)Again. It's an Asus Ultrabook S500CA w/ 12G of memory (8+4 G - limitation of hardware/motherboard?). Intel® Core™ i7-3517U CPU @ 1.90GHz × 4 Intel® Ivybridge Mobile w/ 11.6 GiB available for OS use... no graphics card; just I, ...ادامه مطلب

  • [ubuntu] Dual boot windows 10 with Ubuntu on new Asus Core i3 Laptop

  • Good evening forum, I just purchased the Asus 2 in 1 13.3 Touchscreen Intel Core i3 6gb Memory 500GB Hard Drive-Black Hairline Laptop and I want to dual boot Windows 10 with Ubuntu. I have done this for years but this is my first (I Think you call it) UEFI and I have seen videos of installations and they all are confusing. I have Ubuntu on a flashdrive already and I used Unetbootin.Question 1. Is using Unetbootin ok or do I have to use something else?Question 2. Do I have to go and resize the partition in windows by freeing up space first or can I do it the old Fashioned way by just booting up from the flashdrive in Ubuntu and just choose Install alongside Windows and size it from there?Question 3. I have seen them all go to systems in Windows and then disk management and then when you go to install, they are using Install alongside Windows and just clicking install after that but one video said that wasnt good to do it that way, Is that true?Question 4. Once they resized the partiion in windows then they choose something else in Ubuntu installation, they went and added swap space and then they clicked windows boot efi I guess to override that with grub and then installed. Is that the best way.Question 5. My conce is, If I have to retu this for a hardware problem and in fear of warranty not being upheld because I tinkered with the harddrive partition, can I just boot back into windows and do a recovery and will it erase all of the harddrive and reinstall windows 10 over the COMPLETE harddrive and it will erase Ubuntu and take the laptop back to the original windows 10 only? • [kubuntu] nVidia prime - can't run external monitor on Asus Zenbook

  • Hi,I bought a new ASUS Zenbook UX501VW with Intel card + Nvidia Geforce 960M. First what I did after installation was set grub option to nouveau.modeset=0 because fans were really loud. I guess that this tu off my nvidia card. Then plugged exteal monitor via HDMI. Everything worked perfect, could do whatever want in KDE display settings, both screens, only one etc. So I'm pretty sure that HDMI port is connected to the Intel card. Then installed latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-367), nvidia-prime and nvidia-settings. Changed grub options (recommended for optimus) to: Code: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=force drm.vblankoffdelay=1 i915.semaphores=1" Here are my experiences with exteal monitor on nvidia-prime profiles:Intelnvidia-settings doesn't show anything about secondary display. Infact, settings on this profile are really poor in KDE display settings I see my secondary monitor but when try select it for change "enabled" checkbox then it becomes unselected after 2 seconds. Even if I try do this really fast and accept, then I get message that it could not be enabled because resolution is too big or my driver doesn't allow more than one active display in KDE display settings, don't see exteal monitor in "main display" popup list. A bit regression between what is "visually" presented nVidianvidia-seetings show only Screen 0 section. That kind of screen configuration is missing on Intel profile for me KDE settings doesn't show anything about secondary display at all Notessecondary monitor is running on login screen but tu off after login in everytime when exteal monitor show "no signal", interface on laptop display is frozen for a half second or less (including mouse cursor). Looks like monitor ping interrupt X server when exteal monitor is connected then kworker/N (N=CPU core) has abnormal CPU usage (~5-10%) SystemKubuntu 16.04 64bit, updatedDon't suggest me to try bumbelebee. Already did and doesn't work at all. I used it 4 years ago on my Dell XP, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Faulty DSDT prevents recognition of charged battery

  • Hi,I am encountering the same problem as outlined under these two links.http://askubuntu.com/questions/58706...lugged-in-asushttps://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=222503The only information I found about changing DSDTs is at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DSDT however I dont feel confident enough yet to try it out.I wonder if this is just a display issue or if it actually affects the battery, by constantly discharging and charging it. If it is only a display issue, it shouldnt be too much of a problem, otherwise that would be a major blocker though.Thanks. Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • [kubuntu] Screen flickering on low battery level

  • Hi everybody,I'm an old Debian user and wanted to try Ubuntu, so i've recently installed Kubuntu 16.04 LTS (with KDE Plasma 5) on my Asus laptop. Some days ago I tried to install nVidia drivers but nothing came up, so I reverted (or I guess so) to the "original" situation. Everything works fine (actually I don't neet my card, integrated graphics works fine for me now). I've only one issue... when battery is low (20% and lower) my screen starts flickering bad when opening "new graphic elements"... What can it be? When battery is above 20% (or so) I have no flickering at all, same when plugged to AC (even if battery level is low)The command Code: glxinfo|egrep "OpenGL vendor|OpenGL renderer*" gives this back: Code: OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Haswell Mobile My laptop is an Asus X555LD.I don't know if this is the right section to post this thread, so i'm sorry if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance!Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب
