Lenovo error 1962: no operating system when installing ubuntu (single OS)

I inherited several Lenovo m91p machines that currently have Ubuntu installed: I can log into one, but the others are all locked and so I am trying to reinstall a fresh copy of ubuntu on each of the others. The machines are identical, so I know that ubuntu *can* be installed successfully.Issue: I keep getting Error Code 1962: No operating system found whenI try to bootAttempting: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit installPartition settings: I have tried several based on forum posts I have found, but the most "vanilla" is probably what I have included here in the pastebin. One single partition on the HDD: /dev/sda1Attempted solutions:1) wiped out the HDD partition and fresh installed Ubuntu2) after fres...

[ubuntu] Strange problem when fixing grub after windows 7 re-install

Hi Guys,I have a strange problem to which I could not find a solution. After re-install of Windows 7 thanks to a Windows 10 upgrade that essentially made my PC a random blue screen creator, I now need to fix grub to re-enter my ubuntu partition. I am using ubuntu 14.04.I tried to follow this thread http://askubuntu.com/questions/88384...alling-windows but for some strange reason I caot mount the partition that holds the important folders (sda4). Instead I can only mount sda5, a subpart of sda4 containing only a folder named after my useame. If that made little sense, I attached a screenshot of what GParted showed me to make it clearer.Screenshot from 2016-07-10 00:02:49.pngScreenshot from 201...

[ubuntu] Can't Create PArtitions when installing to MacBook Pro

When attempting an install on a MacBook Pro from a live usb drive, it fails when creating the partitions. I get:ero=-32It seems to delete any existing partitions just fine, but won't create them. I've installed Ubuntu on this hard disk using another machine, and it worked fine. It's like the MacBook has some kind of lock on writing partitions to the drive. Any ideas? [ubuntu] How to manage partitions when having installed Ubuntu besides first installed Windows

Hi! I am new to Ubuntu (installed it only today!), but have since many years gotten more and more irritated over Windows attempts to intrude into my whereabouts, and the risk of getting a share of all viruses etc out there on Windows systems. So, now that I finally bought a new ASUS miniPC with some 500+ Gb memory, I wanted to install and use Linux instead of the preinstalled Windows 10 that came with the buy. My colleague pointed me to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It was downloaded to a CD, and used for the installation, as below described.I did not want to remove the Windows 10, just install Ubuntu beside it, to choose which OS to use whenever I start the computer up.Now my problems and questions:1. ...

When installing ubuntu "alongside Windows", and possible disk recovery.

Hello, I am an Ubuntu noob, and recently I tried installing it on my PC as an alteative to my (still installed) Windows 7. My current hard disk setup is: one 64 GB SSD with Windows installed, one 250GB HDD, and a 1 TB HDD.When installing, my intention was to install Ubuntu as an option when booting. When I prepared the installer (buing the .iso of Ubuntu 14.04.4 into a CD and booting it), I chose "Install alongside Windows 7" and went with it. The result was, without me being asked (or without me noticing I was asked) my 250GB drive was used for the installation, and right now that drive is inaccessible from Windows, considered the main drive in Ubuntu, and apparently has been wiped... [ubuntu] Installation bug when using two disks on 15.10?

Hi, I have an HP 6970b laptop. It came with a disk with Windows 7 (which would be /dev/sda).I decided to use Ubuntu to experiment with VMs. I installed a second disk in the machine in place of the DVD (which is /dev/sdb). I then downloaded Ubuntu 15.10, got it on a USB stick, rebooted the machine off the USB stick, and pointed the installation at the new drive (/dev/sdb). Installation seemed to go well and I could boot Ubuntu without any issue.However... I noted very briefly during the install that GRUB was installed on /dev/sda. I never saw any option to not let that happen. The upshot is that my Windows 7, which was on a physically separate disk, is trashed now, unbootable. I am going to p...
