[xubuntu] initramfs - the root filesystem on /dev/sda1 requires manual fsck (ATA bus error)

Hello, this is my first time using linux and I am ruing a xubunto. I read how to do things and got xubunto ruing good yesterday.Today I noticed all icons on desktop had a lock symbol and searched on web figuring out it would have something to do with permissions.I followed some posts saying I should use Code: sudo chown -R $USER: $HOME" and "sudo chmod 777 -R /path to folder but I didnt notice any change so I restarted the pc.Since then I cant get past what seems to be initramfs saying that "the root filesystem on /dev/sda1 requires manual fsck".Again I searched on web how to fix it and ended up using commands like "sudo fsck /dev/sd1" etc. but in all my attempts to fix it in the end I get a...

[ubuntu] How to remove sda1 from grub menu

Set up: ssd drive ubuntu and toshiba HDD Windows: Installed windows on Toshiba hdd on a PC with ubuntu already installed. Windows demanded a partition for system reserved. Allocated a 500mb partition but windows did not input any files into it. Not MBR or anything else. Result 500mb became free space located in front of the NTFS partition. Both systems run in mdos modeGrub menu: Ubuntu : sda1 windows boot loader : sdb2 windows boot loader. Ubuntu booted up fine. sda1 & sdb2 . Both booted windows fine but only mounted in ro mode so unable to use windows files from ubuntu. I spent several weeks trying to get windows to mount rwe but failed. Error messages insisted that windows was hibeated but...

[ubuntu] Default install partitions? What the heck is this sda2?

I'm not really all that well-versed with Ubuntu, so please forgive if this is an FAQ.I just now installed 16.04 onto a 16GB USB3 flash drive. That all went well, and I've already installed some apps I wanted. But I just now used "Disks" to look at the actual partitioning of the USB3 flash drive, and it's totally perplexing. Here's what I've got:/dev/sda1 12GB / (ext4)/dev/sda2 3.4GB ???? (note: extended partition)/dev/sda5 3.4GB (swap)OK, so the sda1 and sda5 partitions make obvious sense. What I'm totally mystified by is what that sda2 partition is all about. What is it? Why was it created? What does it contain? Why does the "Disks" GUI tool not indicate that it has any specific type of fil...

[lubuntu] /dev/sda5: clean, xxx/xxxx files, xxx/xxxx blocks

Hallo Everyone,Today I installed Lubuntu 16.04 (64bit) on my netbook but during boot the system hangs on the message quoted in the title. The strange thing is that, if I boot on recovery mode, everything comes up fine. Indeed, under recovery mode I was able to run an update (in the hope that this would fix the problem) but I still have it.I also thought that maybe this is just a file/disk-scan and I just need to wait for it to finish but there doesn't seem to be any disk activity.Does anyone have a tip for me? Or should I maybe continue to boot in recovery mode until a fix is supplied? Many thanks,Alan SearleCologne, Germany Let's block ads! بخوانید...
