I installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 about a week ago on a partition from my Windows 10 OS. Since then, I have been able to successfully use Grub to choose either windows or Ubuntu to boot. Just now, however, I restarted and the Grub menu didn't appear. The bios menu also did not appear. It then booted straight into Ubuntu. This happened after I tried to hard restart with the power button and the prompt appeared suggesting that I save files first. My files were all saved, but I exited out and saved them all anyways, and then shut down just from the actual software option. Settings seem to have changed as well. For example, my desktop is now stuck at 1024x768, while before I was at 1920x1080. The only ...

(and you need newer UEFI hardware).Ubuntu can boot from gpt with either BIOS or UEFI but with BIOS you must have a 1 or 2MB unformatted partition with the bios_grub flag for BIOS boot or a FAT32 formatted partition as the ESP - efi system partition.Probably best to fully backup and reinstall if you have newer UEFI hardware.I started converting to gpt years ago when I still had XP. But XP was on MBR drive with Ubuntu on gpt drive.Converting to or from GPThttp://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/mbr...

ادامه مطلبGood evening forum, I just purchased the Asus 2 in 1 13.3 Touchscreen Intel Core i3 6gb Memory 500GB Hard Drive-Black Hairline Laptop and I want to dual boot Windows 10 with Ubuntu. I have done this for years but this is my first (I Think you call it) UEFI and I have seen videos of installations and they all are confusing. I have Ubuntu on a flashdrive already and I used Unetbootin.Question 1. Is using Unetbootin ok or do I have to use something else?Question 2. Do I have to go and resize the partition in windows by freeing up space first or can I do it the old Fashioned way by just booting up from the flashdrive in Ubuntu and just choose Install alongside Windows and size it from there?Ques...
ادامه مطلبHello, trying to dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu,I have read several posts and tried several things and no matter what I do, it boots windows 10 every time. The only way I can get it to go to Ubuntu is to hold down F12 while powering on, then I get an option to start:Windows Boot Managerubuntuubuntuif I choose ubuntu, then it goes to Grub. I want to start Ubuntu by default and have the option to choose Windows 10 and I dont want to have to press F12 every time.I have tried "Boot Repair Disk", I have tried rEFInd, and I even tried "EasyUEFI" for Windows.I read somewhere that Lenovo has a bug that it will only load a boot manager if it is named "Windows Boot Manager" or "Red Hat Enterprise Linu...
ادامه مطلبHi,I have an HP envy 4 laptop that I have recently upgraded with a 750 GB ssd ( + the additional built-in 32 gb ssd). I have installed windows 10 in the 750 gb drive, in UEFI mode (legacy is completely disabled in the BIOS options), letting windows use 100 GB. The windows installation went fine and it is working ok, and it has created the typical 100mb ESP partition plus a "System" and "C." partitions. Now I am trying to install kubuntu in the remaining space. My goal is to install the / partition in the 32 gb in-built drive, and the rest (home +a 16gb swap) in the spare space of the 750gb ssd.To do so I am partitioning manually the two drives using the installer option. I am making sure that...
ادامه مطلبHey everyone, Linux n00b here, hoping to attempt my first dual boot Ubuntu setup alongside Windows, been reading up on the partitioning scheme for 3 days solid now and just wanted to get some second opinions on what i've come up with before taking the plunge!I had originally plaed to install alongside Windows 8.1 but then Windows put the time limit on upgrading to Windows 10, so I upgraded yesterday and quite like it so I think i'd like to keep it. Hopefully this doesn't totally change my plans for Ubuntu.I'm not sure if upgrading to Windows 10 will have any major effect on how I should set up my partitions, but it may be worth noting that it has added a new recovery partition (Primary 4, 82...

But the dual boot failed to recognize Windows 10, instead identified Windows 7 as the installed version of Windows and tries to boot Windows 7. As such the Windows boot fails.Much thanks for all help,Newbie MikePS Not quite Newbie as this is my second Linux installation. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

ادامه مطلبHi,I found an old thread outlining how to do a clean Win7 install alongside existing Linux installation(s). Basically, make sure the target partition is already in NTFS, and that you're in legacy/BIOS mode. And save your GRUB config somewhere so it can be reinstalled. Is that still accurate with the Win10 installer? I have- a recent notebook with UEFI boot disabled- an SSHD with GPT pmap, 200Mb EFI partition first, with 1 free partition I could use for Win10 evaluation.- a bootable USB thumb drive with last week's Win10 iso bued onto it.I used that drive to upgrade a notebook's Win7, and was pleasantly surprised to see that was an almost perfectly transparent exercise. The Linux partitions on...

ادامه مطلبIt's good that you asked. There was a huge problem with the installer in 14.04.1:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...y/+bug/1265192The only safe way to install using the 14.04.1 media is to use the advanced partitioning option which is named "Something else".One more thing of conce. Most Win 10 installs are UEFI and I don't think the i386 version of Ubuntu can be installed in UEFI mode. So please post the output of the following command using the live version of the DVD/USB: Code: sudo parted -l PS: Don't be discouraged by that installer bug, once installed 14.04.1 is rock solid once updated. That's what I'm still using for fresh installs because 16.04 is far too buggy and the later point...

But I still can't get the process down right. After installing Ubuntu, I either get "no operating system found" or I'm back to Windows 10 without a Ubuntu option.I CAN boot Ubuntu from a flash drive using "shift & cntrl" when shutting down Windows 10, then choosing the "boot from a flash drive" option. For me, this is a last resort. I'd really like to be able to dual boot.I'd appreciate some guidance. Thanks!David Let's block ads! بخوانید...
