Hi,after the update to ubuntu 16.04, my laptop (Samsung NP305E5A) boots to a black screen. The boot process continues since it is obviously reading from the hard drive and also playing the drums sound for the login-window after a while. However, the screen remains black from right after the grub-screen is gone and stays like that. Ctrl+Alt+F2 also does not take me to a usable command line. I found no way for the screen to show anything.However, I did find something one might call a workaround. After applying the latest upgrade instead of prompting for my password, Ubuntu is not sending any signal to my monitor. It gets so far as the 5/6 dots to show it is progressing through boot, but no further. Hello,I updated my Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 LTS, and I have since had some issues with my exteal monitor. As I move my cursor to my second monitor I often get screen flicker, a brief black flash, it also flickers on my primary laptop screen when I do this. The flicker is relatively inconsistent, it happens more often than not though. Most frustratingly of all is that quite often my exteal monitor will go fully black and I will need to click on that screen or move the cursor to it to see the screen properly again. I had none of these problems with Ubuntu 14.04 and I now regret upgrading. I have looked at rollback options but I would much rather avoid this. Has anyone else experiences this? is it...

I have ssh access to an Ubuntu 16.04 box and I am normally able to coect, via x11vnc, using -display :0 -coect [server.tld]. It isn't a headless system and this only seems to work, when there is someone logged in. When the machine is at the login screen, however, the vnc screen is black, with a cursor. I have tried Code: sudo x11vnc -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -display :0 -forever -bg -coect [server.tld] but it doesn't make a difference. The screen is still black, with a cursor. I got the 16.04.1 upgrade notice and started it through terminal with do-release-upgrade. It threw a lot of dpkg errors near the end, but said the update was complete despite the errors. I tried to sort out the errors before restarting, and somewhere along the way ruing apt-get autoremove was suggested (I think after ruing apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). After that I opened update manager to see if things were okay, and all it said was that a restart was needed. On restart rub tries to boot to the new keel, but doesn't do anything besides showing a black screen. I tried to install a Lubuntu on an old atom CPU netbook with a usb drive but can't seem to installl. I booted the netbook and able to select the language and the option run Lubuntu without installing or Install Lubuntu etc. However whenever i try to install the Lubuntu, it is stuck is a perpetual black screen with a "_" blinking. Or tryin to run Lubuntu without installing will cause the netbook to restart itself.I had tried to boot the usb with my other computer and the usb seems to be working fine.Any suggestion on how to proceed? Hello,I just installed Lubuntu 16.04 LTS on an old Dell desktop unit.I have no trouble to start the install from my live USB but after installing, I get the result of mounting the main disk, but no graphical interface.Swithching to different TTY shows me the login prompt but revert to this strange message automatically. This is an old installation that has been working fine for over a year. Now after booting I get a black screen after grub. I can boot to recovery and I've tried all options no help. I can also boot to a live CD. As in the title. I had ubuntu installed on this machine before and did not run into any trouble, but having windows 10 installed in between seems to have caused the trouble. The screen is black as in black is being displayed, rather than no signal coming through the cable, given that the light on the monitor didn't tu orange. So far I've tried flashing the bios to the latest version and reseting the CMOS, both by bridging the pins and by removing the battery, but nothing.Also setting 'splash quiet' to 'nomodeset' doesn't seem to help either.
