RetroArch ruing on RAM with an Ubuntu Minimal Install

Hello people,

I have in mind to set up an Ubuntu Minimal Install that boots directly to RetroArch (stable) ruing only from RAM.

I have little knowledge in setting this up professionally let alone give a good explanation of what I need, but I'll try:

To install Minimal Ubuntu on an optical hard drive.
Make it load and run only from RAM.
Boot directly to RetroArch.
Save games, savestates and configuration files to optical hard drive.

Any Idea, tips, referrals etc would be very much appreciated.

I know that there is Lakka.tv, as a matter of fact I am one of the documentation's contributors but I want to test and run RetroArch on a popular distro for comparison.
