IP address of router showing up in browser

Hi,

About 10 minutes ago I lost my network coection temporarily, something which occasionally happens for whatever reason.

However, this time I noticed that whatever URL I entered in Firefox, it "redirected" (not sure if that is the word) to 192.168.1.1, the router IP address - as in the browser URL window showed http://192.168.1.1. It didn't take me to the router's config page or anything like that, it just hung waiting for a response.

Any idea why this happened and is it a cause for conce?

On rebooting my Ubuntu system (not the router) the problem went away, but not sure if this is due to the reboot or due to a temporary network error which then went away.

This is with 12.04 LTS and Firefox 47.0.
