Ubuntu 16.04 , Steam Refuses to launch.

Iv have tried everyway way in the book to install steam. i installed it via command line , it still does not launch , i check software center , it does not show up as an app i can install , i go to steam web site , and install it using a package installer , ( after moving the verisons that failed to launch ) it still does not launch but at least it gives me an error message this time , Could not set up steam data , please contact technical support..... this is still more or less a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04 , nothing really modifed or anything... so why is steam failing to launch? and how can i get it to work. im a gamer , i need to be able to use steam.
