[ubuntu] Trying to Establish Static IP Addresses Not Working

I stretched etheet cables to both ends of my house, in order to create a wired LAN instead of relying on wifi signals. I then attempted to edit /etc/network/interfaces to reflect:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.2.11
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.251 auto eth0

Can anyone assist? I'm not sure what the issue is. It worked at first, with the etheet cable plugged in, and ordered the wifi stopped. But upon shutting down the computers, I can't coect to the etheet..

FYI, I"m ruing 16.04 Ubuntu LTS on a laptop, and Kubuntu 16.04 LTS on a PC tower.
