[ubuntu] Keyboard Layout Issue

Hi,

I've seen the other two threads about this, they don't seem to be quite my issue, but if this has already been covered somewhere, forgive me, I simple do not have the time to trawl through threads for a possibly-existing-elsewhere answer.

I have the 16.04 version of Ubuntu desktop on my Dell Inspiron.

As of yesterday, for no reason, the keyboard has decided to get it's own mind and doesn't agree with me any more.

I am set to the UK standard. It even confirms this when I look at the expected keyboard layout in the 'Text Entry' section in Systems Settings.

However, when I want and @ instead of using the key the expected keyboard layout shows, as mentioned above, I get " instead.

There may be other anomalies too, but so far not come across any. This is because it's playing havoc with my passwords and it has just become easier to do my other work on my MacBook. That is meant only for my audio work however, not general use.

Why does my computer say it is using the English keyboard layout in my settings, but in practice it is giving me something else?

Actually that is not the most important question, but would be nice to know. The biggest question here is; who do I get my keyboard working as expected again?

Like I say, sorry if this has been covered, the other two keyboard threads didn't seem to quite be this problem, but apologies if I am dragging up an already covered topic.
