[ubuntu] Recommend Media player (Graphical and CLI controls)

I'm in the market for a new media player, I'm still using Banshee even though it hasn't seen an update since 2014.

I need a GUI based media player but one that also has full control from the terminal to allow it to be fully scripted upon login without popping up a GUI every time.
I like a simple Genre/Album/Artist type layout like itunes used to look like about 10 years ago before they started adding nonsense stuff to it.

And if you're wondering why I don't just stick with Banshee it's because it's a buggy mess and I've had enough of it's faffing.

So, any recommendations?
