[lubuntu] Edimax EW-7811UN- it worked on 14.04, but not 16.04

Hi! I hope you can help me.

This wireless adapter has given me trouble ever since switching from Windows. When I installed Lubuntu 14.04, I followed the instructions shared by chili555 in several other threads, and they worked.

When I upgraded to 16.04, the adapter began giving me trouble again. Speedtest.net says 1 Mbps (versus 7 when I plug in a cable). And it feels "balky" subjectively; uploading a photo to Facebook will often (but not always) fail, etc. I tried the same instructions again, installing the alteate drivers and blacklisting the existing ones, but no change.
