[ubuntu] Upgraded to very fast fibre optic but now finding internet not working very well

First of all, I had better give a little background. The title looks to me to be a little anaemic.

We recently upgraded to rather quick fibre optic service (300m) which seems to be working well enough via wifi on my wife's Windows laptop, but my wired system is acting very oddly indeed. Pages tell me they are not available, styling does not render downloads decide not to start, etc. I thought it might have been insufficient RAM, so I added 16gb of new ram ( now 24gb) and that did not help at all, (but non inteet functions seem to feel their prime!.)

I have focused on this answer: http://ubuntuforums.org/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=336 I shall be trying to follow the diagnostics listed there in order to give all the material needed, but much of it is something of a mystery to me. However, my wife's smart phone is something of a mystery to me as well - when faced with a phone that does nearly everything but call people easily, I can easily see the Luddite point of view!

I digress.

First of all, under the old ADSL service (10mb) service, using Ubuntu 15.10, things worked quite well doing all of the same loads. After it was changed over to the faster service I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04. This was a case of replacing the old system and my /home folder was on another disk. That was something of a disaster, having the inteet almost stop working. I reformatted and installed and the performance improved substantially, but it is still not as good as it was before. Using a /home folder that has been in use for four(?) years makes me think there may be some configuration problems there, but I am not certain.

I also note that the file I am referring to is suggesting that there may be driver problems, but I am quite at sea with that as well.

I have read this and can confidently say I fel a complete idiot.

Reading on I see they asked the writer to ping the inteet. That sounds like that might be helpful!

I want to note, when I was trying this earlier, it lost one of those packets but, of course, whenever you go to the doctor, all of the problems seem to disappear in the waiting room.

The motherboard and the microprocessor are quite new, and this is all pretty much as they came.

The rest of the post I am referring to begins to ask about things I think are already mentioned, so I am assuming I do not need to add them in at the moment. I do not want to confuse...no, really!...I am confused since little of this makes real sense to me. If this is a problem with the Realtek software, I have no idea where to find it or how to install it, let alone how to now if it needs changing.

Is it true you guys are CSIs (Computer Scene/Silliness Investigators)?
