mplayer starts behind current window (alt tab)

when I issue mplayer from the terminal (not gmplayer), it starts behind the current window, so I have to alt tab to bring it to the foreground.

I think this is a general setting in gnome-shell as I've seen it with other apps.

Where can I configure that launching programs should always be in front?
