Hello everybody,
I have just upgraded Studio 14.04 to 16.04 and caot get rid of the disastrous Unity desktop!!.
I would like to have Gnome desktop back, as I use it exclusively. Preferably 2.7 or similar. Unity is extremely cumbersome requiring multiple cliks to even find a program in the menus, thats providing the mouse doesnt hit the edge of screen and reduce the window I was working on to a postage stamp.
I think Unity was developed for mobile phones and should be kept for that purpose.
On another subject!! Install is superb and went like clockwork
except that it couldnt update GRUB. A quick grub-update fixed that after a reboot into Debian 8.4 ( my other OS ). Yes its a dualboot system. The install took two days however
, MOSTLY due to my inteet speed ( Im in Australia and speeds approach 25kBITS/sec on a good day!!! and thats coected to NBN )
NOT having Synaptic is another drama as the "software" setting doesnt load properly, and stays with just 3 dots instead of pictures ( I guess?? ) Pictures is what I have now with Gnome3 desktop, but Unity controlled, so still that ugly unintuitive multi clicking "Applications" dropdown.
Other than that, the system works OK
Newly purchased brand new:
Asus G750JM ROG machine
2.5 Ghz I7
16G RAM
GTX860 Nvidea
1Tb HD X 2
Thanks for a superb OS OTHER than Unity !!!
Best regards
Joe
