[Idea] updating wiki checking compatibility for most popular hardware using data here

Basically I recently built a computer out of popular and not so expensive parts that were reported here and had no recent errors reported elsewhere - I am also selling this computer to a friend that's starting using Ubuntu.

During this time I noticed 1. Most of the wiki is outdated. 2. Editing is locked and I couldn't find out how to unlock.

So I was thinking of establishing a list of most popular hardware (according to some website, Amazon comes to mind, also Newegg maybe?) and searching for each part number against this forum for evidence that the hardware works with Ubuntu. What do you guys think?
