16.04 Notifications bar is extremely buggy

I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 on my Macbook Pro 11,2, replacing Ubuntu 14.04. Thus far, it has given me nothing but grief. This post is about the notification bar.

When my computer is plugged in, my notification bar says the battery is discharging, and when my computer is unplugged, it says the battery is charging.

Today (this persists through restarts) the notification bar stopped displaying and wifi networks. I still coect automatically to my wifi, but it shows the image for a wired coection.

Any idea why any of this could be happening?
