Can't coect to house wi-fi

Hello. I looked through the forum to try and find this exact issue but couldn't find anything but variants. Any help appreciated.

- Ruing 15.4 and caot coect to home wi-fi.
- Phone coects fine and can coect to net via etheet.
- Other devices in house on Windows/Mac can coect
- Other wi-fi signals elsewhere such as general UK university standard eduroam coects fine, but that signal doesn't reach my house.
- Contacted university, they said they can't find the issue and as the computer isn't Win/Mac they can't help.
- Aoying, as inteet is university property, can't look at router to pass on details.

extra edit after receiving a helpful note: I will eventually upgrade to the long-term supported 16.04 over summer but don't wish to immediately.

Pretty sure my personal laptop on Elementary OS has the same issue, but that's permanently attached to the etheet, hence my hoping I can get a fix.
