software recommendations & help setting up plex media server

Hey Guys

Im fairly new to ubuntu (ive dabbled with linux in the past but now, to make a long story short, im making ubuntu my main OS.... at least on my desktop)
Im trying to set up my pc with some software but cant seem to get anything working right

First off ive been trying to download uTorrent, however, even after following several step by step guides and copy pasting commands, it does not seem to be installing properly, any advice would be helpful, otherwise are there any gui based torrent clients someone could recommend? preferably something available in ubuntus package manager, for easy installation (sorry for the n00bishness)
Im also trying to find a decent IDE that supports multiple languages, usually i use Visual Studios as it supports most languages i need,
I dont suppose theres something similar to "boot camp" for linux? would love to use microsoft office and vis studio if i can still get away with it, otherwise will definitely need a new IDE

also having some issues setting up plex, i have 4 drives mounted, all of which have media on em, plex can detect the drives but not the folders/files on them, ive read up and this seems to be a fairly common issue, looks like its a problem with permissions (plex doesnt have permission to access the drives), but havent found a simple way to remedy the issue, does anyone have any advice? also after a decent client to coect to the media server
