Wake On Lan Ubuntu 16.04

Does anyone have any advice how to setup Wake On Lan for Ubuntu 16.04, I've followed the steps here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WakeOnLan but not having much luck.

The network device name seems to have changed from Eth0 to something like Esp3n0, but so I made the necessary swap in all the instructions.

I ran ethtool and MagicPacket is already enabled, I have also configured WOL in the bios.

I have also manually configured the network coection as explained here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/76415...n-ubuntu-16-04

But still no luck - would it be advisable to uninstall network-manager?
I'm assuming that the network card is being powered down as there are no lights on the network coection when the PC is powered down.

Thanks for any help you can provide WOL seems to be a bit of a dark art
