[ubuntu] ubuntu 16.04 - iPhone not being detected

I dual boot my HP Envy laptop with Windows 10 and ubuntu

I recently upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04. On 15.10 when I plugged my iPhone 6 into my laptop, my iPhone used to be detected automatically and I had the option to sync it with Rhythmbox/Banshee. The iPhone icon would appear in unity taskbar and on the desktop.

However since upgraded to 16.04 my iPhone hasn't been detected correctly by ubuntu. First, it would only detect the iPhone as a camera, shotwell would open and the camera icon would appear in the unity taskbar. I used synaptic package manager to reinstall libimobiledevice, but this didn't resolve the problem. Instead, my iPhone is no longer detected at all when I plug it in (not even for pictures), although it still charges.

Is there a way to resolve this is problem so I can sync my iPhone with ubuntu.
