[lubuntu] x11vnc black screen

So I saw a few posts about this, but they were from 14.04 and older. I just added a new hard drive, installed 16.04 and pulled my 14.04 drive out to put on backup. I had previously used x11vnc quite a bit. I'd SSH into the computer, tu on x11vnc, then use a vnc client to access the desktop. I just installed x11vnc and when I open up my coection, I get coected to the computer, but it's an all black screen, no actual desktop content.

I'm willing to try another vnc server, but I recall using tightvnc previously and it only extended the desktops, I want to always show display 0.

Ideas? Thanks!
