[UbuntuGnome] Ubuntu ( and other distros) crashes on laptop short after install

Hello.
I have tried to install different distros of linux on my laptop, but every single time, my laptop have crashed within short time (usually after first time i reboot).
I have tried: different releases of ubuntu, ubuntu gnome 14.10 and open suse.
The way my laptop crashes issnt the same everytime. sometimes it just crashes and tu off, other times the whole partion crashes and i cant boot again.
my laptop is a lenovo y50-70, with an i7 4710HQ, nvidia 760m, and 16gB ram.
At the same time i have run ubuntu gnome on my desktop for months, and havent had a single crash.

So the question is:
What can i do?
What should i do to trouble shoot the problem? could it be an hardware problem? (I havent heard of other people having the same problem, with the same computer)

btw, i am new to this forum, and pretty new to linux in general, so please say if i need to give more information.
