Finding a MFP/AIO that is Ubuntu friendly

Even though I use Ubuntu several hours daily, it is mostly for the sort of ordinary things that most business people use the inteet for, for both business and personal needs. Although my tech capabilities are limited, I usually can get my problems solved with the great help on ubuntuforums, but there is one matter that I am making no progress on, even after many months of off/on study.

My wife and I have been using a Samsung SCX-4826FN laser B&W MFP for several years and we can print with no problems from our respective desktop Ubuntu computers. But I have never been able to get either computer to operate the scan function. There are lots of posts/threads that try to deal with it, but they are just too technical for me. Therefore we have a third computer with Windows solely to run our scaing, and we would like to dispense with this computer. While that setup does the job, it means one extra computer to maintain and since it is a Win machine, it takes a lot more maintenance time than a linux box, not to mention it is always interrupting what I am trying to do with what it wants to do.

We are ready to upgrade to a newer laser B&W MFP and I have done a bit of reading, coming to the conclusion that HP is the most linux friendly manufacturer, and so I want to support their initiative, but still with no idea what machine might best suit. I have had good luck with HP in the past and their prices are OK, so the question now becomes, which model # HP AIO is easiest to install for both scaing and printing (faxing not used) by an old noobie like me.

Spec: B&W only laser wireless network with auto document feed. Prefer ability to scan legal pages, but not critical. Low per page cartridge/drum cost a plus as is a big bright user panel, but not critical.

Which HP AIO/MFP do you recommend based on personal experience, preferably under $400, ideally around $200 (since they often sell on the razor blade model)? Maybe you would recommend a different brand, and I am happy to take this into account, and will be interested in your reason/s.
