Surface pro 3 Ubuntu install

Good Afteoon Gentlemen,

I am very new to Ubuntu and linux in general so I followed

this blog on how to install ubuntu onto my SP3
I am able to boot into linux desktop
....
for all about 20 seconds and then my screen goes blank
back lit but just that..
if I try to install it
it does the same thing
I can get the installer up for about 15-20 seconds and BAM
blank screen
I am not sure what I am doing wrong or if something changed from 14.10 or 14.04
or 15.04 which was said to work just fine (well not just fine but install and run)
I am trying 16.04 as it is the latest version.

any advice and/or help would be incredibly appreciated
