[ubuntu_mate] I can't record quality audio from my desktop..

My sound card for the most part plays sounds and music just fine. I try to record my desktop with the various screen capture programs out there. They all make wonderful videos, but for audio I have the choice of no sound, or I can hear an awful sound that skips most of the input leaving large chunks of it out and sounding awful. I've played around with pulse audio configurations with the config file, changing various values, so I finally got sound working in the stand-alone R java client. Unfortunatly, I am still in the dark about making nice audio recordings of my speaker output that goes with the video. Waing, programs you may suggest might be on my "already tried that" list.
