Dependency hell in fresh install of 16.04

Both libgles1-mesa & libgles2-mesa are in the xenial repositories (but not installed by default) and they are at version 11.2. In fact the oldest version of these libraries is version 8.0 and that with Ubuntu 12.04. So, even 12.04 meets the dependency requirement of greater than or equal to version 7.8

So, the question is this: Is the Universe repository enabled? Software & Updates>Community maintained free & open source software (universe). I doubt if this is the cause of the problem. It is the best that I offer.

Of course, it is not relevant to any problem installing Nvidia drivers. Are you using Additional Drivers to do that? As for Skype, well I think that is an entirely different matter.
