multiple monitors and Ubuntu 15.10 Wiley Werewolf

I am using the flavor of Ubuntu that is listed above in the title. My 2 issues are as follows:

1. When I move the mouse from one screen to the other it seems to run into a 'barrier'. I have to move the cursor swiftly in order to move from one to the other monitor. Is there any way to set it so as to move fluidly between monitors?

2. Is there any way to set different background pictures on each of the monitors and have only one of the monitors act as the lead? i.e. signing in with the password, etc as opposed to the password space showing on both monitors
