My new old Laptop

So my boss gave me an ancient laptop, the thing works great and is very speedy. However the issue is it is from 94'ish era. It is a compaq contura 430c. I love the design and thought it would make a great text editor for college to start my papers. This laptop has a 100mhz processor, 12mb ram, and 420mb hard drive. Windows 95 on it is very speedy, I was wondering about linux however, what linux could go on it. Tinycore requires more ram than it has, so I thought about Damn Small Linux. while looking things up I found out about grey cat linux as well. What are your thoughts on this. Do you have other ideas of what could go on this? Keep in mind many of these computers ran DOS or windows 3.1. Also it would need to install from a floppy disk as there is no cd drive or usb ports.
