If there are important files that you want to save from the inteal hard disk drive, you should start by cloning it with ddrescue, and do the repair work on a cloned copy. This reduces the risk of destroying what is left.

If there is nothing to save from the inteal hard disk drive, I suggest that you use the option 'Erase disk and install Ubuntu' at the window 'Installation type' of the installer.

So this is the first thing you have to decide and tell us.
