[ubuntu] Netgear WNA3100 causing freezing when attached

I'm currently ruing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS off of a Dell Inspiron Mini 9. My Netgear adapter is plugged into an Anker 4-port slim USB hub. I installed the drivers according to a very helpful thread that I can no longer find. Whenever I start it up, it either gets stuck on a black screen, or the desktop freezes. The issue is not present when I am hooked into a wired coection, like I am now. Can anyone give me some advice on where to proceed from here?

On an unrelated note, does anyone know of the compatibility of the inteal WLAN/WWAN ports with mSATA devices for inteal storgae, as the dedicated storage port is hardwired PATA, and it will only work with a rare number of drives.
