GraphCrunch - executable file won't run

I'm trying to install this program http://bio-nets.doc.ic.ac.uk/graphcrunch2/download.html on Ubuntu (with KDE desktop).

I've downloaded VirtualBox, and from there downloaded Ubuntu, and from there downloaded the KDE desktop. I then downloaded GraphCrunch2, extracted the files, and ended up with a file called GraphCrunch. I right-clicked it, went to properties/permissions and clicked the 'allow executing file as program'. However, when I then double-click on the file, nothing happens.

I'm new to ubuntu and have never used it before.
