I'm using a kvm/qemu virt setup. Here is the relevant parts of my smb.conf file Code: # Change this to the workgroup/NT-domain name your Samba server will part of workgroup = WORKGROUP [share] comment = samba share for windows guest path = /path/to/share public = yes writable = yes Result of sudo pdbedit -L Code: user:1000:user Result of testparm Code: Load smb config files ...

I gave an old Acer Aspire (5610z). I installed Ubuntu Mate. I have an *old* webcam trying to get to work to record how a squirrel is getting into our bird feeder in the back yard.I've read about "Motion", but can't get a GUI to show up?Have also tried Cheese and OCS. None seem to do what I need. I can access the webcam with Cheese, but I don't think it does motion detection? OCS gives me an error "Failed to initialize video: unspecified error"Am I at least on the right track? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

So I consider myself if not an uber computer geek at least a "power user", and tried to keep my dual boot setup of Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 for as long as I could. I need Windows currently because of some Windows-only software I need for my classes (hopefully won't need these ever again after I graduate). I was really fed up with Windows 10 (don't like all the telemetry crap, don't use the Windows app store, Cortana, forced updates, confusing settings options, interface in general). My last straw was the other night I had some school documents open and unsaved, and Windows decided to just restart on its own to apply some updates. So I backed everything up, completely wiped Windows 10, did ...

Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

I've installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 (also tried Xubuntu 16.04/14.04) on my brand new laptop i5 6200u/8gb/gt940m/240gb. I have problem with ubuntu performance, which doesn't occur on windows, where everything i've tried works just fine. On ubuntu I feel lagging when just typing - e. g. in codeblocks or in chromium. In gtkperf i receive very different results - once it's like 2,5s and next time 20-30s (!).I tried reinstalling ubuntu couple of times, with swap and without it. Also on empty ssd - with no effect at all. Memtest - no errors, ssd benchmarks - fine, cpu benchmarks - common results (benchmarking under windows).I wonder if someone can tell me what causes my problems - thanks in ...

I have been using Ubuntu phone, BQ Aquarius E45, for the past year. Until now the web browser has always worked. But today it stopped working. I went to use it, and wanted to access my History, as all tabs had disappeared that had previously been open. Then the web browser froze, and I had to close it. I tried to reopen, but as soon as I do, it crashes, closes right away. I tried rebooting the phone, but that did not help. Nothing else was ruing at the time it froze. Even after another reboot, I have not been able to open the web browser. Web apps, like Facebook, still work okay with no problems. So how would I fix this? Is there a file to delete or edit in the filesystem? I have searched onli...

I hope this isn't a bore for you guys, but my Windows broke down while I had a dual boot with Kali and I just couldnt get it to work, sick of both systems I deleted them from a Ubuntu live cd - stupid I know. Now I cant get Ubuntu to work despite its supposedly being only system on my computer and Grub 2 working.Basically it get stuck loading after the first install. When I try to repair it via a live ubuntu cd nothing works as I get errors when I run the command below: Code: sudo fsck /dev/sda1 fsck from util-linux 2.27.1 e2fsck 1.42.13 (17-May-2015) fsck.ext2: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/sda1 Could this be a zero-length partition...

HP laptop, updated from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 10 (standard BIOS) with two 500 GB hard drives & 8 GB RAM wanting to dual boot Ubuntu 16.04.1 but ruing into issues with the disk 0 / sda already having four partitions and quickly ruing out of knowledge!I had previously deleted the HP Recovery partition on Disk 0 and shrunk C: volume so I had approximately 100 GB unallocated space for Ubuntu install but during Ubuntu install realized I still had the 3 partitions and so wasn't sure how to work around that with either drive. So I extended the C: volume and removed the 100 GB unallocated space until I could figure out what and how to setup. Here is where I'm at in Ubuntu install when have the ...

I've looked around a little on this subject and it seems there are many options. I guess I am looking for some help in narrowing down a path to take so I can remote into my Ubuntu box from my Windows box.One person told me to get PuTTY and that was all they said. I think I've seen PuTTY uses SSH.Will PuTTY allow me to remote into my Ubuntu machine the same way Windows remote desktop lets you remote into other Windows machines?Or is PuTTY only command line? How does PuTTY work and what can I do with it?Then I saw an article that suggested Remmina.Remmina seemed like it might be more like Windows built in remote desktop.Does anyone have experience with Remmina? Thanks! I waa switch over to Ubuntu as it would serve my (Ancient) Hardware well, the only problem is I like playing games and I have an AMD GPU. I really would like the speed boost from Linux, but it'd mean leaving all of my games behind, simply because they don't support linux, or because the drivers are really bad. I would like to do GPU pass through, but it seems like too much hassle to me (And likely on't work, no iGPU on processor, have to use an 8600GT that HAS to go below my 7970). Dual-booting on this Ancient motherboard sounds like a pain because of three minute boot times. Do you guys have any tips for how to get about this? Let's block ads! بخوانید...
